Just a thought....

Jbabey,

Have you thought about trying to integrate Opera or NetFront or the Firefox browser to take the place of PIE? I like Opera quite a bit, but it's rather large. I thought maybe if PIE was completely removed, it might free up enough space to make one of the others a worthwhile replacement.

On another note, I have some animated icons for weather panel that I like much better, but it cost almost 1mb of space. If you are interested, I can send them to you.

Thanks

as much as i would LOVE to replace PIE, its not really feasable from a great deal of standpoints. Its so interwoven into the OS that removing it would have serious repercussions.

The other browsers take up SOOOOO much room. I mean, they are HUGE. I think netfront was the smallest of the bunch, but i think that one weighd in at like 5 megs. Im teetering on like 500k of free ROM space as it is! I figured putting in PiePlus was a good "compromise" if you know what i mean, and its really simple to disable if you dont like it (see known issues).

The animated icons are already like a meg, so if you got better ones id LOVE to get my hands on them. Shoot them over to me plz, would be much appreciated. Thanks for the feedback

I didn't realize the implications of the ROM's size. I understand that now. It sure would be nice though!

I PM'd the weather icons to you. I wish I could remember where I got them from. It would be nice to credit the creator. I think they did a great job.

Thanks,
Dan

....Regarding the browser...

Jbaby - have you looked at Picsel Browser? It's quite small and does more that just browse - has a document viewer too - even does pdf's.
It's a little tricky to find the .cab for it, but it's out there... anyway the install for it is probably no larger than the pdf viewer yer already using - perhaps you can kinda kill two birds with one stone here....

how bizzare. On the b1 i was able to nail that issue straight down to phonealarm, and its because i screwed the registry intercepts for incoming calls.... b2 should not be having that problem. Ill recheck all the new OEM packages and see if something screwy got leftover.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you shoot me a screenshot or a list of what you have loaded on the today screen please, it will help.

+++++++

In regards to the kitchen, ill not be releasing the unified one for some time, i need to make sure its stable enough for wide release, and with bizzare bluetooth issues, as well as 1 report of crashing, i dont feel its ready yet. The 9.6 kitchen was released about a week ago. Do a search for the thread or just check a few pages back and you should see it. Dont have the link handy rt now.

HI JBabey.

I have these on my Today in order of sequence :

- LVM TimeO2 + Last Call
- Messaging
- PA
- Speed Dial
- WP
- Birthdays (I installed it myself, and have been using for years now )
- WP-Pilot

On the Birthdays - It's a cool app - with 72 KB of footprint - shows me only b'days and anniversaries... Not sure if you have ever tried it. I use it instead of Task+ or Cal+ etc etc.

Big J,

I noticed this earlier, but thought maybe I was doing something wrong. It appears that I'm not do anything out of the ordinary though. I can enable Phonealarm but if I soft reset, it hangs during the boot-up. After 4 or 5 resets, phonealarm hit turns itself off (safety feature of WM5, maybe?) and then it's ok. But as soon as I turn it back on, it does the same thing on the next reset. I have a Verizon version, and don't let it install the customizations. I'm puzzled. I feel like it has something to do with the beta version of Phonealarm though. I installed it before on the unified ROM and had the same problem. Not sure if that helps or not, but more feedback to consider.

I like the Metroid stuff too, BTW.

Thanks,
Dan
