I had a TON of trouble trying to get this to work on my phone. I ended up using the internet sharing app and it is 100% times easier to do and setup. I would just go that route and forget about the wmodem stuff.

When I try that (Internet sharing), it cannot find the drivers for:
"PocketPC USB Sync" when I plug in the data cable.
The ppc dials up fine, but my laptop seems like something is missing. I cannot get the New Hardware Wizard to finish properly.

Active Sync works.

Thanks for the help!

Did you try re-installing the latest version of active sync before trying the internet sharing? That solved my problem there as well, although I admittedly don't know why.

I got the drivers to install after the upgrade, thanks.

Still get a page not found, looks like a DNS problem.

Thanks.

BT PAN in Internet Sharing

I was able to use BT PAN with my brother's MAC(he fell for the hype) and I can tether USB to my laptop and tablet using both wmodem and internet sharing. My Q is what is the difference between using the modem or IS? I speed tested both(tethered cause I dont want to kill my phone battery playing on the net) and they were about the same.... anyone else have any observations? BTW I'm still running AKU 3.5.1.0.4...

Any truth to this?!?!?!

Is this true!!! I heard there is a way for Sprint PPC6700 users to use their PPC as a modem BUT (here's the interesting part) instead of using Sprint's network you can use Verizon's Broadband and not get charged for the Data!!! Any truth to this?

There is a registry setting that disable's the device telling the server that you are tethered if you use Wireless Modem. If sprint uses that method to know you are tethered, then you can disable it, but if they use the amount of data being used, then I can't help you there...

Change the following registry entry to:

[HKLM\Software\OEM\WModem]
"Multi-NAI"="0"

That will make sprint think you are still using the EVDO on the phone. Not sure if this entry is used by Internet Sharing as well. I'm pretty sure Internet Sharing does not report you are tethered anyway, but if you use Wireless Modem, then the above key will make it report as the phone doing all the internet, and not a tether... This setting is already set to "0" if you have flashed your ROM with Helmi_c's...

I know on Alltel, I use a PRL from their data cards that allow me to use sprint evdo. But I have never been charged for tethering, so not sure if that help's you any. As far as I know, Alltel does not charge for tethering..

^does that regedit still use up data? in other words, does it make you completely hidden from the network allowing free tethering even on a pay-as-you-go plan?
