Thank you for posting the instructions for doing this. Although I did use your instructions as a start I had a different encounter during my installation. I take no credit for the information i am writing here. I only complied it in my attempt to to get modem tethering to work. These instructions were used on my Verizon XV6700.
O ** = Original Instructions By Rufus M ** = Modified Instructions/Comments O ** 1: On Windows Mobile: Tap Start->Programs->Wireless Modem M ** Wireless Modem is actually an EXE called wmodem.exe. Initially i could not find this because it was hidden. Regardless, In my search to find this exe file I searched for instructions on reinstalling. As a result, I came across the instructions to Enable the WMODEM & DUN. Instructions as Follows: 1. Go to the PHONE application 2. ##3328873 3. enter code 000000 4. Select BT DUN 5. Click Edit 6. Choose enable 7. Select WMODEM 8. Click Edit 9. Choose enable 10. Push Save / OK 11. Push Ok 12. Follow the prompt to restart your device **copy paste from another site. Now back to find WModem. At this point i still could not find this application. As a result i reconnect my Apache to Active Sync and browsed to the \windows\ directory. Where i went to tools and show all hidden files. After finally finding it I Copied and Pasted the shortcut link to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs. I disconnected my Apache from the USB Cable and disabled Active Sync. This was done using a program called "DisconnectActiveSync." Of which i cant link cause i am a n00b. Finally on my Apache I went to Start>Programs>WModem O ** 2. Select 'USB' as the connection type, and then press the 'Start' button. M ** Worked as Instructed. O ** 3. Connect your Windows Mobile with Desktop PC by USB cable/cradle. M ** Worked as instructed O ** 4. On Desktop PC, new hardware will be found. Select 'No, not this time' and press 'Next' M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 5. Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and press 'Next' M ** Worked as Instructed 6. Press 'Browser' to specific the folder which contain the 'CDMA USB Modem.INF', and then press 'Next' M ** Nope, failed gloriously. After hours of searching and researching the solution to make the INF file work for me was to Edit the INF file with the Device ID. The only way I could get the ID was the finish the installation by hitting Finish and not installing any drivers. I then went in Windows to **Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager> **Double Click on the Yellow Exclamation Under Modem **Click on Details **Copy the Line USB\Vid_045E&PID_0079 **Open the file CDMA1X_USBMDM.INF **Under Section [HTC] Replace: '= Modem1, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_00CF' '= Modem1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0079F' At this point I Disconnected my Apache & Reconnected. And we continue from the New Hardware Wizard Instructions: Attempt #2 O ** 4. On Desktop PC, new hardware will be found. Select 'No, not this time' and press 'Next' M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 5. Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and press 'Next' M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 6. Press 'Browser' to specific the folder which contain the 'CDMA USB Modem.INF', and then press 'Next' M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 7. Press 'Continue Anyway' M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 8. Press 'Finish' to complete 'CDMA USB Modem' driver installation. M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 9. After installation you have a new USB Modem called 'CDMA USB Modem' in Control Panel->Phone and Modem Options M ** Worked as Instructed O ** 10. Run the application 'CDMA USB Modem Dialer.exe' and then press 'Dial' to make the data connection leaving the user name and password blank. dial: #777 M ** Not quite. I had to add the following: User Name: [10DigitCellPhone#here]@vzw3g DOT com Password: vzw Dial: #777 **copy paste from another website 2 Very Important Things to Remember: *YOU MUST DISCONNECT ACTIVE SYNC *YOU MUST NOT HAVE AN ACTIVE DATA CONNECTION Hopefully this is helping and doesnt confuse anyone. Regardless, I had a hell of a time getting to work. It does work now. But with my modified instructions. Happy Tethering.
