Just a note to watch out for those 4gb cards, lots of the ones on E-Bay are fake. Also, make sure the card you get isn't SDHC, as the Apache isn't (currently) compatible with that standard, which is required for cards 4gb and up,

Well, those that have TOMTOM could test if they can get it to launch faster than 15.1 seconds. That's my current speed. My friend launches it with same results on his E-Ten , of which uses the slightly larger SDCard.
Now it seems like it has gotten a bit slower, potentially from more files being added to the phone or the card. It is now loading at 17 seconds. Therefore the conclusion is that there may be no conclusion. I tested this a number of times under a number of circumstances, even XCPUScalar doesn't make any difference...although you can slow it down by increments of 10 seconds per lower level - you can not speed it up. That is the real world testing I want to see. Someone should have a similar app that takes a long time to load and have some sort of results. Ultimately I don't think I'll be all that concerned with speed unless it causes problems with playing video, or audio over BT Stereo headset. However, it would be great info to have when making a purchase or giving suggestions. Perhaps emails could be sent to the manufacturers for them to publicly state their stats that their memory is the fastest. May the best man. win. |

I'm running clean and simple 3.5 ROM and Wisbar Advance and Desktop were the only apps running when I tested.. |

I'm running TomTom 5 stored on my noname 2gb miniSD and it takes 15 to 17 seconds to load to the point of the legal notice screen. (no label on my card, and I don't know how else to determine manufacturer...threw away box/receipt etc)
Now that I think about it, each TomTom setup could be at least slightly different. The first difference is of course the version. The next difference will be the Maps. I'm using Southeast maps. There is also the differences of added "POI's" as well as "Favorites". My entire directory labeled "Southeast-Map" (which includes my added "POI's") is 160mb. The best method will be to test on regular card before moving over to a new card and test again with everything then being equal. It is interesting to find this discrepancy between speed differences with TomTom now ranges from 6 seconds (mentioned in above post) and my load time of nearly 3 times that. |
