badkarma - I always have had stability issues with HFL, and they became noticably worse with Jeff's C&S 4 All.

As a result, I was really looking forward to your update (Thank you for putting it together! I was going to do it myself this weekend for my first "baking" lesson).

As I mentioned, BT HFL seems to have become worse with your new image. My suspicion right now is that once the phone goes into "sleep" mode (a few minutes after starting a HFL call), the call gets dropped. I have not seen this behavior in the past.

I will be testing, and updating this thread with my findings sometime today or tomorrow.

I may just be a BT HFL issue, and the rest of the BT stack may be OK.

Cheers!

I really like this rom - fastest one I've used so far, but I'm having a big problem with it. Before this, I was running the OEM verizon rom, and then ImCokeMan R3. When I soft reset the phone, I lose all SMS and MMS messages. Read, unread, moved to different folders... It makes no difference. I've been searching this forum and google for a couple of days looking for a solution, but it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem. Does anyone have a solution? I went through the SMS options in the options menu and the registry and didn't see anything that looked like it would automatically delete all messages on reboot... I've had this same problem with a couple other ROM packs I got from this forum. The only one that did not do it was the ImCokeMan R3, but I'd prefer to run clean and simple.

Back up your SMS before you flash.

I'm not talking about flashing, I'm talking about rebooting the phone with the soft reset button.

Well - I'm done testing, and I have to go back to Kirvin's C&S. This "patched" image had two major problems for me:
  • 1. Bluetooth HFL was the most unstable I have seen yet on my XV6700. I can't even get my phone recognized by my car after pairing - which I have never seen before.

    2. Battery drainage is insane! It seemed like my phone was draining quicky, so as an experiment I left it on overnight in "Flight Mode", which is as low-powered as you can get. Normally, my phone would still be at 90%->100% battery after sitting overnight in Flight Mode. This morning, after 8 hours, the battery was totally drained.

Sorry, badkarma - but I think something might be wrong either with the image you created, or the original supposed "BT Fix".

badkarma 05-26-2007 03:03 PM

That is bizarre. I use a WEP200 for HFP and a Motorola S9 for AD2P, both work fine. No drops or anything. As for the battery, I don't leave my phone uncharged very long so I'll have to look into that.

badkarma 05-27-2007 07:33 AM

battery

left my phone on for 13hrs, phone, evdo,bt on, few calls and surfed for a few minutes. battery was at 60% after 13hrs. I also flashed 4 coworkers units if they have problems I will report.

Can anyone please help me with internet connection sharing?iI need a bit more details setup instructions for it.Do I need to have Microsoft ActiveSync installed or removed from my laptop?do I need to install the Sprint Mobile Broadband for Phone as Modem download from Sprint?where do i get the PPC6700 modem driver install to my laptop? Thanks for all your help,it's a great ROM.

korndogg 05-27-2007 09:42 PM

Can somebody please either post the kitchen for this somewhere else or email it to me? I have tried many times on 3 different computers (home, work, and at a friend's) and each time I try to download, I just get an error saying the page is unavailable.

korndogg 05-28-2007 05:34 PM

Nevermind, all. I finally got it to download. it was a security setting. But I can't get it to work. I have tried to remove total commander and also add other stuff, but when I flash my phone, nothing is added or removed. This is the first custom rom I am trying to make. Any help would be appreciated.

Telus user here

Hello All,

I have been reading all the post regarding the ROM updates here and was wondering if the ROM updates would work on my device. It is a PPC 6700, however my carrier is Telus mobility as I am in Canada. Would anyone know if this ROM update can be applied to my device?

Update

According to Kirvin's FTP folder the NoJunk Rom was released Feb 28,2007 but now there is C&S Generic published May 15th. What are the differences between these? I am running the noJunk for my XV6700, but want the Bluetooth PAN to be fixed. I am hoping this updated ROM has those fixes. Can you chime in Jeff? Thanks.

C&S Generic is based on the release version of the Unified ROM Kitchen rather than the pre-release version. It doesn't have the Bluetooth PAN fixes that have been discussed, but you can add them to the kitchen and build a ROM yourself if you like.

Thanks for the post Jeff. So are there performance/stability improvements or what kind of changes are there? P.S. I'm not into the building my own yet; I just tried your ROM two weeks ago which was my first step into hacking my phone.

Mostly speed improvements.

Tasks don't "sort by"

After updating to AKU 3.5, which by the way is great so far by all accounts, my TASKS do not "sort by" any of criteria other than by subject i.e. Due Date, Start Date, Priority. Anyone else experiencing this and if so are there any corrective measures that can be applied to recitify it?

Seems to be a bug with AKU 3.x itself. I've seen it in all 3.3 and 3.5 ROMs. I believe Microsoft's official fix for this is WM6.

Has anyone tried out Jeff's latest ROM? I'm interested, but I'm going on vacation next week so I don't want to mess with my phone right now.

Hi, badkarma -

Interesting ... My experience has been all over the board with AKU 3.5. Right now, my power usage appears to be back to normal (even though I haven't made any changes since the original flash/configuration). For the first few days, it was sucking my battery dry in just a handfull of hours, and now I can almost make it through a day with a single charge (as long as I don't make any calls).

My BT connectivity also is about what it was before. I don't know what was going on for a few days there, but your image seems to be functioning similar to JK's image now.

I'm still getting random DSODs (usually when I attemt to power up first thing in the morning) and losing my SD card frequently though, which I didn't see prior to loading JK's or your image.

Since I haven't seen any losses or benefits over JK's image, I'm keeping yours for now.

Cheers!

Has anyone managed to get the Vibrate to turn back on? I flashed my phone, and it is working fine. Then, I flashed my wife's phone, and the ... ahem ... "vibrating mechanism" will not work on hers. She says that she really needs it to work. I haven't really asked why, but she seems pretty insistent. Quite distraught, in fact.

OK, OK. I am really serious. My phone upgraded fine. Hers didn't. She goes to a lot of meetings and needs to be able to use the silent ring feature. I tried re-flashing the rom, nada. I tried flashing back to a Sprint -issued rom, nada. I then tried re-upgrading the the C&S rom. Still nothing.

Any ideas?

Mike

Coronach 05-30-2007 01:28 PM

And yes, I did do the regedit

HKLM/drivers/builtin/allledmgr/index/d-word=1.

Nothing.

Time Zones

I'm having the same problem with 3.3 where the Home time zone continues to revert to the Visiting time zone. The temporary fix is to set both to the zone. But is there a more reasonable solution I.e. hack?

I did, but it took a few days. I did the reg change and did a soft reset and nothing happend. I figured I was outta luck. Then several days and a few soft resets later I had the volume all the way down and a call came in and it vibrated. Dont ask me why but Im happy ). Hopefully yours will work its way out as well. Now all I need is for my BT to fix itself ).

Speaking of which, has anyone made a cab yet to easily do the BT updates? I really dont want to learn how to cook a rom just for this.

Coronach 06-03-2007 02:58 AM

That's exactly what happened to me.

I admitted defeat on the Vibrate and Contacts fronts (two biggest problems on the upgrade to my wife's phone), headed to work, and after I got to work my wife called me and said that the phone vibrated when she got a call, and she got Contacts to sync properly. I asked her what she did, and she said "nothing. It just started working."

I'm telling you, Windows Anything (Mobile, Vista, Activesync) is voodoo.

Mike :)

snanto 06-03-2007 03:12 AM

On Vista??

I am using Vista 32bit Ultimate Edition with the Windows Mobile Device Center and when I put an XV6700 in bootstrapper mode and plug it in to a USB port, Vista installs drivers but the Mobile Device Center indicates that the device is disconnected, as well as the message from the upgrade program.

Any ideas?

TambourineMan 06-03-2007 08:10 AM

I haven't had to downgrade to vista yet but when my time comes I think I will finally switch to Linux.

But as for ideas, searching is always a good ides. I recall seeing a fix for your problem, but did not have to any attention to it.

mdphoenix 06-04-2007 11:10 AM

I cannot get pictures & videos to work. I have the same problem that some were having with Helmi's 3.3. Clicking on Pic/Vid brings the unit to it's knees. It responds, but it's extremely slow.

Any help?

flashing angst: now a thing in my past

After reading about flashing for a few months, I finally decided to do so with great results using Clean and Simple 3.5.

So far, so good... after 24 hours my apache (on VZW) is working as I expected it to work out of the box (insert bitch slap here).

Thanks for a great product and all the work. I'll post any issues which may come up.

I was able to reflash my device in Vista, but it was hairy, scary and as close as I come to panicking about a computer problem. I had the same problem as you. Went into bootloader, installer refused to connect, couldn't get out of bootloader, the Exit Bootloader program in the Tools folder didn't work (which I'd used before to save my bacon in XP).

So I used WinRAR to extract the official 2.0 installer to a folder, copied the nk.nbf file to that folder and ran UT Starcomm's upgrader: \APA_SPCS_20600_303_12700_WWE_Ship\RUU_TOOLS\Apach e\WWE\ROMUpgradeUt.exe

This seems to be properly digitally signed to run under Vista and the flash went normally after that.

You know what. I must be high. It's working now. Man I feel like an idiot.

It was locking up the PPC. Similar to the issues reported with a few of the 3.3 AKUs. Anyway. It's working now.

Jeff, I'd like to sincerely thank you for all your hard work on this ROM. I have never been happier with my XV6700. I had actually considered moving to a Treo, but thanks to you, I'm a 6700 guy for a while longer.

Thanks again!

Jeff Kirvin 06-05-2007 04:15 PM

I was having trouble with my custom build, so I actually flashed the C&S Sprint version myself and even though I have stuff like eReader and Pocket Player in memory now I still have over 17MB free and damn, this *is* fast. I see why everyone likes it so much.

So you're all welcome, I'm with you now, and also a happy 6700 user!

(for a couple more weeks, at least...)

Coronach 06-05-2007 11:05 PM

It's not so much the speed that has me hooked, it's the stability. I've had to soft reboot maybe 6 times since I installed the ROM. Under the old official AKU, I would often soft reboot that many times in a day.

I've always said that the 6700 was great- when it worked.

Now it works.

Mike

Jeff Kirvin 06-06-2007 12:13 AM

The stability is a direct function of what I removed. The whole idea behind this ROM was to bring the ideas behind "the Zen of Palm" to Windows Mobile. Simple is good.

BrianPAdams 06-06-2007 11:22 AM

Anyone have the Kitchen for the C&S Sprint ROM? I'd like to apply the BT fixes but want to do it to the Sprint version, not the generic one.

Also, I lost my vibrate when I flashed this ROM. That was yesterday. While typing the two sentences above I got a TM and my phone vibrated. WEIRD!
