first try... failed

So this is my first try at upgrading to a non Sprint ROM. All went well on install but on operation, I cannot connect via BT or USB to tether. No dial up BT service exists and USB reports "COM OPEN ERROR". I upgraded to fix issues with EVDO lockups I've experienced since Sprint upgraded this area. Though now my situation has worsened. Any advice would be appreciated.
Upgrade was to Kirvin_AKU_3.5_Sprint_NoJunk. Also ran PPCGeeks. com ApacheExtRomUnlocker and Ext ROM Unlock.

internet sharing

Following up to my previous post. Using Internet Sharing as opposed to wireless modem I can connect via usb. BT reports an unknown error in Internet Sharing. Still seeking advice or tips on using BT tethering.

Edit: USB connection produces "USB Device not recognized" on computer and "check usb cable..." on PPC every attempt to connect. I have to unplug/replug the usb cable after connected for it to be recognized.

Problems with the link to the ROM. The site is asking me for a password. Any ideas?

Kirvin_AKU_3.5_Sprint_NoJunk.zip

Hey guys yesterday I flashed my Verizon XV6700. I was scared at first but everything worked out great. I used the following ROM Kirvin_AKU_3.5_Sprint_NoJunk.zip. It's fast and clean.

Now for my very simple questions:

1. I have Verizon, but every time I get on PIE it says I'm using Sprint PCS Vision connection; how would I change this? And is this a problem?

2. I have not run the CAB for the extended rom yet, but when I do how do I ensure it doesn't turn my storage card into Storage Card 2?

3. Last question: Did I load the correct ROM? What should I do next?

Thanks!

According to your note - you loaded the wrong ROM!

I dont know if there is verizon version of the no junk ROM but if not - I would reflash with the Generic version. I've used it and it is very fast and stable. Dont use the link from teh first post - use the one on the 4th or 5th page as it is based off of the final unified release.

elantra_99 07-15-2007 12:12 AM

Thanks for the reply fablife! I went to page 5 to download the C&S Generic version but I'm getting an alert pop-up: "No file or directory exists."

Maybe Jeff's server is busy or something. Anyway I'll try again tomorrow. Also do you know if this ROM will still have the same stuff, like 1-Calc Lite? Thanks again!

To use the wireless modem on your Pocket PC via USB cable, you need to disable Active sync, enable the wireless modem app on your PDA then connect the device to your PC.

er0k 07-16-2007 02:57 PM

Kirvin, can you fix the link to the 3.5 no junk generic? The link on page 5 doesn't work. Thanks in advance

FYI on GPS Intermediate driver and Clean and simple

hey all.. thought i'd give you a heads up on this. I had originally posted some questions regarding whether m$ gps intermediate driver was available in this build. After MUCH research, I came up empty.

My wife also has a 6700, and complained about the blinking light at the top. I went digging and found a program called ppc6700 hacks (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/ppc6700hacks.shtml) that took care of that issue, and lo and behold, one of the options in the program was to turn on the GPS icon. After a soft reset, voila! Micro$oft's GPS intermediate driver was there!

Thought someone else might benefit from this info...

From the looks of it, yes its a problem with VC... Because I have used V1.6 many times and it works perfectly with this rom...

SaintSinner 07-18-2007 12:42 AM

I too have had no probem with the C&S rom and VC 1.6. Other than needing to add in the button 5 reg fix, its working well for me.

Any word if anyone is cooking a C&S rom based on the new 1.0.2 kitchen? Or can we take the latest C&S kitchen and somehow merge that in with the new kitchen files. Sorry if thats a dumb question, I'm still new to custom roms.

You guys all rock.

Not a dumb question at all, Same one I have actually.... I for the life of me cant find a good free cab manager, and I can not afford $100 for a program Ill rarely use... Otherwise I would currently be trying to make my own C&S style rom based on the new kitchen myself...

tjdavis 07-18-2007 10:40 PM

download link to new C&S for any Apache

Looks like the update to the ftp structure took away some of the roms. I am looking for a link to the latest Kirvin C&S for any Apache based upon the final release Kitchen. I need it for a Verizon 6700. Any help would be appreciated.

mjstallion 07-19-2007 09:16 AM

I used this rom to upgrade from Saridnours, and it worked, initially. I got the blue boot screen which gave special thanks to ppcgeeks and a few other people. But I messed up installing some other stuff so I had to hardboot.

When I hardbooted, the Palm SMS threading app wouldn't work because the AKU wasn't above 3.3 (which is necessary to get it to work). I then reloaded Kirvan's rom, and then my boot screen changed back to the old school Sprint one, and it said the aku was 2.2 or something. I tried loading the Palm SMS app, and sure enough, the AKU wasn't above 3.3. I reloaded the rom at least 7 different times, making minor tweaks here and there, and none of the times would it properly load. I tried downloading the rom again, installing the rom from a different computer... Same thing always happens, when I install it I get the sprint screen that says the aku is 2.2.

Please help!

SaintSinner 07-19-2007 03:55 PM

Your boot screen, if I'm not mistaken, as I'm still new to all this, will not show the updated AKU version. Instead you need to check it from
Start-> Settings -> System -> About. My C&S build from Kirvin's latest kitchen shows OS Version 5.1.195 (Build 15698.3.5.0)

Check there to verify what OS version you are actually running at.

On page 5 of this forum is a reference to Kirvin's Clean and Simple - Generic Apache ROM. The link in that post doesn't work for me.

Could someone provide the link that ROM if they have it?

Thanks again...... :?

I just deleted the files from my computer after I upgraded to the new kitchen, otherwise I could have zipped them up for you. Sorry about that.

However, it looks like the successor to this ROM (unless Jeff decides he wants to do his own) may very well be this one that phoenx06 cooked up:

http://www.ppcgeeks.com/phoenx06-cun...-07-t6872.html

which incorporates all the new stability features and bug fixes in the new kitchen.

Clean and Simple ROM

Yea, I just saw the new C&S rom based off the new kitchen. I am now waiting for it to come out for Verizon and then I will be all over that one.

Can't wait........... :| [/quote]

jeff for president if we get it tomorrow (sprint version)

Jeff Kirvin 08-09-2007 07:21 PM

Yeah, the generic version is problematic because of old cabs in the ExtROM... Must research that...

bluedrag685 08-10-2007 10:34 AM

i have a problem, when its checking device it gives me errror 101 or 105, saying that device is not connected and it connected and in bootloader. any help? :|

Jeff Kirvin 08-10-2007 10:48 AM

Just a thought, but I know in Vista you have to disable USB connections in WMDC before the flash utility will see the device.

Lol, I just run a virtual machine inside Vista with XP loaded on it, map the PPC to the XP box and do all the flashing/installing. Much easier this way... virtualbox does this very well.

microfirmz1 08-10-2007 03:21 PM

Virtual XP on a Vista Box

For those of you that want to do this legally, you can download virtualbox (google it), then call microsoft and request a license for XP. If you have a Vista license, you are entitled to 2 previous versions of windows, so you can get an XP license or a Win2k license. Use that license code to install XP on the virtual machine.

just my 2c

tenthirty2 08-11-2007 11:38 AM

Ok Jeff, wake up already and post that new bad @ss rom for us Verizon peeps!

Jeff Kirvin 08-11-2007 11:59 AM

Uh, I did.

Jeff Kirvin 08-11-2007 12:07 PM

Oh, for Verizon, sorry, didn't see that part. That may take a while, if it gets done at all. What I'd prefer to do would be to post my scaled down and tweaked kitchen, then people can build whatever version they want. But Luv2Chill might have my ass if I do.

Thanks for getting back w me Jeff. I guess I should've specified I wanted a "generic" rom, and after reading the post you reference above, I see you say it isn't feasible because of issues with outdated cabs in the extended rom. That isn't a problem for me, because I have a clean extended rom, I deleted all of that junk a long time ago. I use it for storage only. I just upload the appropriate prl, add mms, and do a little *228 action and I'm up & running. Could you just upload a generic clean & simple with the understanding that those who wish to run it must have nothing in their extended rom first?

Jeff Kirvin 08-11-2007 12:49 PM

I'll try if I find time.

Clark6592 08-11-2007 02:31 PM

Am I lost? Where is the new rom posted for download?

tenthirty2 08-11-2007 03:31 PM

Yes you are lost, to catch you up to speed, Jeff made a new clean & simple for the Sprint folks out there, but he's forsaken the rest of us *lol* JUST KIDDING JEFF.

Jeff Kirvin 08-11-2007 08:10 PM

Generic ROM is compiled and packaged, but I'll have to post it later as I'm heading out.
