Clean and simple AKU 3.5 for any Apache

First, the bona fides...

Based on Unified ROM Project 1.2 Pre-release

Removed:
Cyberon Voice Dial (if you're going to use voice dial at all, get Microsoft's Voice Command 1.6)
Clear Storage (hold down both soft buttons while pressing in on the reset switch to hard reset if you need to)
MSN (all of it)
IntelliPad (the goofy T9 SIP)
IA_Zip (Unnecessary with Total Commander)
SMS Retry (might be useful if it was automatic, but it's not...)
Wireless Modem (doesn't work on 3.5, use Internet Sharing instead)

Added:
1-Calc Lite (better calculator)
MMS with Sprint settings (self-explanatory)
Midlet Manager (Java Virtual Machine)
Total Commander 2.5 (freeware filemanager, FTP client and registry editor; also makes great fries!)
Windows Live Search (better than Google Maps)

.NET 2.0 Compact Frameworks are preinstalled.

Okay, here's how you use this. Follow this step by step, and nobody gets hurt.

1. Hard reset your phone. As mentioned above, you don't need Clear Storage to do this. Hold down both soft buttons with one hand and poke the reset hole with the other, ideally while holding a stylus in the second hand, unless you have really pointy fingers.

2. Put your phone in Bootloader mode. This is a special condition that prepares the phone to rewrite the ROM. While holding down both the power and record buttons, poke the reset switch, again with a stylus. The backlight should go off and the screen will say "Serial". When you put it in the crade, the screen will change to say "USB" and the backlight will stay off. This is normal. Wait for Windows to recognize the new USB device before moving on.

3. Run Kirvin AKU 3.5 NoJunk.exe. Keep clicking Next until it's done. Do NOT remove your phone from the cradle until it tells you to! Seriously. Don't make me come over there.

4. When told to remove your phone from the cradle, pull it out and hard reset it again. Congratulations! You're running AKU 3.5, probably the closest to Windows Mobile 6 we Apache owners will ever get!

Finally, the download link:

cool, might give it a try tonight, thanks

KidGixxer 02-28-2007 06:48 PM

I am getting “error 120: Country id error" anyone else?

raab 02-28-2007 07:02 PM

you running it in bootloader mode?

KidGixxer 02-28-2007 07:16 PM

Yep yep.

I extracted the exe and ran the "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" and it installed fine.
I guess the exe autoruns "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" which was giving me the error 120.

Seems to be an issue with the .exe. Winrar the .exe file and you will see the components that make it up. Take the nk.nbf and drop it into any other ROM installation file that you have and it will flash okay - just did it, so I know it works.

klopfer 02-28-2007 07:47 PM

mms with Sprint settings

Since this was for "any Apache" I was wondering how easy it was to convert the MMS with Sprint settings to Verizon. Is this straightforward?

Thanks for getting up ROMS based on the unified project.

ChrisFix 02-28-2007 08:03 PM

Jeff,

I just flashed your ROM - thought I'd give it a try. I've been using Colonel's 3.5 which is really nice as well - he is working on fixing a freezing problem it's having.

Since you removed the basic voice dialer, have you thought about including 1.6 in the ROM, allowing just the installation of the .exe for those who have it. Since this is a 4meg program, it's nice not to have to eat all that program memory.

Just a thought...

Thanks for what you've put up today!

Chris

I left it out because a) I don't use it, and b) I'm trying to keep this one as clean as possible, which means no unnecessary .dll files lying around where they might conflict with something else. Software is tricky and the more features you add, the exponentially more conflicts you might have. This is why the Colonel's ROM, which is jam packed with goodies, is less stable than this one.

There are several ROMs out there that do include the VC 1.6 support files, or you can bake your own from the kitchen Shaun posted that I used to make this.

Well said. Just flashed it; this is beautiful. If this is a pre-release, I'm hard pressed to see where improvements can be made (in the spirit of what you said here and elsewhere - the more crap you add, the less appealing it becomes to people). A huge "nice work" to everyone involved in this project for giving our Apaches new life! Thank you so much!

raab 03-01-2007 04:11 AM

Hey,

Using your custom rom. Only thing I've found is that I can't access the internet through the apache whilst on its cradle. Activesync is set to "the internet" in the connection settings.

I get the following error in ie: "Internet Explorer. The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80072f78"

Edit: Also the other downside is that, although it's nothing to do with your rom, live search directions doesnt work in new zealand :( However google maps does so that's ok :)

raab 03-01-2007 04:29 AM

nevermind, turns out it was something to do with activesync.. just ran this reg from here

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=137666

if anyone else has the same issue

ChrisFix 03-01-2007 08:57 AM

I have your ROM running on my XV6700 - everything seems to be great - runs fast even after loading my apps (Exchange Server Activesync, VC 1.6 with BT Caller ID announcement, Skype, SlingPlayer, Odyssey GPS) and was greeted by a working phone this morning!!

What is being worked on that will make the Pre-Release into "The" release.

Everything seems pretty baked here.

Thanks again.

MrHappy 03-01-2007 09:41 AM

The main thing that I know of is BT PAN.
I think they are working on a few other bugs but that is the one remaining big feature that is not working yet.

brightedge 03-01-2007 11:14 AM

Excellent rom! Out of curiosity, where is the "Clear Voicmail Count" setting now? It used to be Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Voicmail > Get Settings." I can't seem to find it...

Thanks!

NitroSS 03-01-2007 11:34 AM

Well I have been running Saridnours’ AKU 3.5+ Rom v3.5pr4 for about a week now. And it works but seems a bit sluggish when my phone is at idle for a while. So I guess I will give this rom here a try. Downloading now. Since it sounds like it works with other's verizon xv6700.
Anyone tried both roms and noticed a diffrence?

I flashed Saridnour's last night, but soon realized that notes.exe wasn't there (of course, I didn't bother to check if the exe was in \windows...it might have been.) I then flashed this rom, and I love it! Very speedy, great battery life, and decent set of programs. I have since dloaded the sprint no junk version, and am in the process of using the rom tools to add some oems that were present in Colonel's (O2, Batti, LVM Time, etc.) Wish me luck!

NitroSS 03-01-2007 12:09 PM

Is Internet Sharing in this? or is that something I will have to download seperate?

It's there.

vinscuzzy 03-01-2007 12:49 PM

not to be nervous nellie, but do you think you should remove the boot screen with all the people and the website who made this possible? With all the roms being removed from xdadeveploers, its kinda nice to have this site still running without any problems from microsoft. Just a thought. Great rom though!!!!

NitroSS 03-01-2007 01:24 PM

I’m having trouble when I install my voice command. I set button 5 to activate VC but it wont do it. It just brings up the notes. What should I do?

You need to run the Button 5 Fix cab that fixes this for Voice Command. Search here or on PDAPhoneHome forum if you don't have it.

NitroSS 03-01-2007 02:10 PM

i'll try that. I did get it to work by just switching the press & hold button 5 to the VC. But the quick press and the tnxpress and hold seem to be the same no matter what button 5 press & hold are set to. I'll look for the cab you mention too. tnx

That concerns me as well. I know Microsoft is aware of this project, and I'm surprised they haven't come after Mike yet. However, the ROM team wants credit and they (especially Helmi, without whom none of this would be here) certainly deserve it.

ScandaLex 03-02-2007 08:54 PM

I thought I downloaded this last night. After my flash was complete, I was sitting here with MSN and some other nonsense not removed. I didnt realize until later at work that I had downloaded the "stock" and not "junk."

Now I just have to learn how to change the boot screen. I cannot express how much I appreciate ALL the hard work you guys have put into making our devices better for us.

Having the names reflected here on these boards as to whose rom your using is great, but I dont think I need or want that sort of information as the first and brightest thing that shows up on my phone.

EDIT Found what I needed to change the splash screen - I'm happy now. :)

Wizzard 03-03-2007 02:34 AM

Jeff,

I just tried to flash from your stock 3.5 to this one and everything was working well until it went to load the new rom. I got the screen with the progress bar and nothing happened and then it came up with an error 150 message saying that the loading program was not correct for this rom???

Any help you can give will be appreciated.

Either redownload or extract the installer you have with WinRAR and run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe.

Shazam613 03-03-2007 07:26 PM

using the sprint no junk rom. No problems so far. Just a bit confused as to what programs I should be placing in the ext_rom2 folder. Previously, i was using the alwaysbelieve1 rom and had diary, pocket plus, res info, explorer and a few othe apps running. What I am trying to figure out is can I place some of those apps in the ext_rom or should I use it for things like say, AE Button Plus, Pocket Informant, WM5NewMenu, etc.

Thanks in advance!!

Rule of thumb over program placement: Never install the following anywhere but main storage:
1. Programs that set alarms
2. Today screen plugins
3. Device drivers

Anything that doesn't fall into one of those three categories should be fine for installing to Extended_ROM2.

mofotrucker 03-03-2007 08:33 PM

Simple perfect i luv it :D :D :D
but.... i miss the windows live from colonels custom 3.3.3

oysterhead 03-03-2007 08:54 PM

awesome.

been holding out...just make the jump from 2 to your 3.5

no issues at all.

phone is much more responsive.

the boot-up time alone was worth reflashing!

THANKS SO MUCH

necorbin 03-03-2007 11:32 PM

This rom ROCKS!!!!!

This is the 3rd rom I've used from this board, and must say, it ROCKS!!!!! I went from Saridnour's to Imcokeman's to this one. Saridnour's included too many apps that I didn't use or want..... Imcokeman's was great, and closer to the slimmed down rom I wanted. Tried this one on a whim, and ain't lookin' back. Kirv, keep the great work up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two Questions

1) Is Smartdialer fully functional? There was a problem with verizonguy's AKU 3.5 Smartdialer where the "Keypad" soft button didn't work once a call was in session.

2) Do the ## codes work properly without loading anything beyond this ROM image? (i.e., I normally reboot during the "Loading in 3 seconds" screen after the first boot. Do I have to load the Verizon Ext ROM files to get ## codes to work?)

Thanks for your work, Jeff!

Now that I've loaded Kirvin's AKU 3.5, I can answer my own questions:

1) Yes.

2) No, but lightsail's PhoneCode application works fine.

A nice bonus is that Bluetooth sync through ActiveSync seems to be working fine now.

Thanks, Jeff!

SDDialer.exe fix for a2dp

Here is the offical download to fix all SDDialer.exe issues, and works with this build. I personally like this more than the VC, but it is simple and works with my Oakley o-rokr glass-phones

http://www.cyberon.com.tw/tsvsd.htm - bottom of the thread

Thanks for the build, it works as described, and is a nice addition to my phone!

basian2001 03-05-2007 10:33 PM

Hey Jeff, everything is good. But there is a glitch when i sync it to my computer, the time on my PPC6700 changed. How do i fix this?

basian2001 03-05-2007 10:36 PM

And also for those computer expert out there. How do make Microsoft Outlook so that every time i close ( X button) it, it would go to the system tray?

raab 03-06-2007 12:59 AM

anyway to get rid of the arcsoft mms stuff?
