Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong.

Sounds like you are not putting your phone in bootloader mode....

Ok, i got my problem taken care of. BUT, nothing happens to my phone....

I did everything. Hard reset, put phone into bootloader mode, when i plugged in it said usb, ran the aku 3.5, and it said congrats blah blah blah. Took my phone out, did a hard reset, and im still running 2.06...? So I did it again, and still the same. What gives?

I have the Sprint PPC6700 and would like to try this rom to get the WM6 experience. I can hold my own but am not hugely tech savy regarding the PPC6700 and am not knowledgable at all ref cooking roms.

Once installed is there anything special that I have to do if the phone needs to be reset, i.e. bootloader mode.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, will this rom sync with the built in Windows Mobile Device Center? If not, what should I use and where do I get it?

I have copied the instructions listed in the original post, is there anything special I have to do after I have installed the rom to ensure it works properly?

If I need to return to the original Sprint rom (for in-store device service purposes or insurance replacement) that came on my PPC6700, where would I get it. I'm sure they would freak out if they saw WM6 on there. What is the name / number of the stock Sprint rom.


Bottom line....should a guy like me attempt this upgrade or should I just leave well enough alone?

With Outlook open, right click on it's icon in the system tray and check "Hide When Minimized". From then on you can just minimize Outlook and it will go to the system tray.

Not sure you can install this on a Vista PC. I think the installer requires XP.

I'm running XP via virtual pc on my vista based desktop. I think I should be able to run it from the virtual XP.

Don't know if I missed this somewhere or not but with 3.5 can I not stream music through my bluetooth headset anymore?

I haven't tried this rom yet. But I am really new. Anyway when I install this will it work for verizon? Or are there other things I need to download to make this work for verizon?

I loaded this ROM last night and have no issues. Suprisingly, even my ## codes still work. I have a generic 6700 unit. THe only issue I notice is with all my navigation programs and 3.5 the onscreen keyboard moves half way up the screen when it is displayed. I have to close the GPS app and then goto landscape and then back to portrait mode for it to work right again.I actually think that is something I can live with. This ROM also seemed to be very light on my device too. After install it was using less then 3MB of storage which was perfect and got my MSN back :D . Nice work Jeff.

I have noticed this as well, and I think it is a "feature" from the AKU 3.x ROMs. I think Microsoft decided to make things easier for folks when they hit a text entry field by automatically bringing up the onscreen keyboard. If the slide-out keyboard gets used, the onscreen keyboard automatically disappears.

I think I'll get used to it, and may even appreciate it at some point in the near future.

Microsoft Virtual PC does not support USB, so you aren't actually connected to the phone through the VPC, are you?

The only way I've been able to work with my phone in a virtual machine is by using the VMWare Workstation 6.0 BETA (5.0 does not support Vista USB).

The version number on the bootscreen doesn't change. What does it say in Settings, Device Info?

it says rom version 2.06.00

Under Settings, System, About, look at the version number. Mine says:

OS 5.1.195 (Build 15698.3.5.0)

Those last numbers at the end of the build are your AKU number. In the example above, I'm running AKU 3.5. What does yours say?

mine says 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0)

My PIE sometimes does not work....It will start loading a webpage, then close...Works after soft reset then happens again...Anyone else experiencing this????

Goodlink Messaging
 

First, kudos to Jeff and all for a fantastic ROM.

Second, Jeff (or anyone) have you tried using Goodlink Messaging software on this ROM? I get stuck at "Downloading Services 0% Complete". I love everything about this ROM, but I need Goodlink for work... I would hate to have to revert back to Verizon's ROM... but if I can't get Goodlink to work... :(

Any ideas anyone?

Terminal Services Client is missing. This is a core part of WM5 and really shouldn't be removed. Yes, there are folks out there that actually use Remote Desktop on their systems... like me.

just want to say thanks to everyone, incredible what you all have done, but I have to go back to 2.2 sadly, i loved the clean and simple 3.5, but i was not able to get or send video messages on verizon. flashed back to 2.2 and it works now. need the flix messaging. maybe in the next updates it will be fixed. anyone else have verizon and can/cannot flix message? thanks again for all the work!

i had the same problem.
It works if you "clear history" and "delete files" from Menu->Tools->Options...->Memory Tab before you browse to other pages.

I changed cache location to storage card and havent had that problem since.

I'm running this ROM on a Verizon Apache and I'm having trouble with the Arcsoft MMS installed with this ROM... I tried putting in the Verizon MMS server info but it doesn't work.. I've also tried just installing the Arcsoft MMS from the Verizon ext ROM but it won't let me create messages...

I actually didn't mind that it was gone.. I just installed the Remote Desktop from WM6 which works much better than the old terminal services client

if you do a search here you'll find the cab to install it

a problem i have been having is with the MMS (arcsoft). this installs a new version and it has the sprint info as the server, how do you add the verizon information because if you let it install the verizon info (after you flash the new ROM), the MMS doesnt work, most likely b/c there are now 2 arcsoft programs on the system now.

so far so good with this one...but im gettin an error.....saddemon...wtf is that...im not that new...but not up to date with all the lingo yet....

one other thing....how do i get rid of all the programs that werent installed...for example, terminal service or text message retry...stuff like that?? they are in my programs and are unnecessary...

wow....i guess i was wrong...i hope i can figure out what is wrong here...am i supposed to be using this with a ppc 6700....for some reason now im getting an error for activesync.....support code: 8007000e....i definatly appreciate all that you guys do to help everyone out here...if i come across rude...im sorry, just a little confused on which rom to choose from and all that i choose have little problems that i dont know how to fix...sorry....

Ok, as a noob i just installed this ROM as my first one. Am i supposed to let the verizon customizer install its crap after the last hard boot? Also im gettting the SDDAEMON.exe Error. Any ideas?

verizon doesnt need anything from the ext rom from what others have said. I dont know for certain since I am with sprint. But I have seen others say that the only things you need are the wireless sync (if u use it) and to dial *228 after the flash. Verizon ppl will have more info, just letting you know what i have read.

EDIT: Also remember to hard reset after each flash and do not restore anything from a backup or try to copy pim over. some changes between AKU 2.x and AKU 3.x

Since upgrading to this ROM, my Contacts are acting strange. When I click on "Contacts", my list comes up but I can't go below the "A"s if I view by company. Worked fine before the upgrade. Any ideas?

i had the same contact list issues but my list wouldnt even show up when i clicked it, hard reseting it again fixed it.

anyone using this with verizon know the best way to se tup the MMS and the MMS server to send video messages?

I have a verizon 6700 and I flashed this ROM and did not run any of the verizon customizations.. i can still update PRL (*228) and the ## codes work

the only thing that I do run is the verizon Arcsoft MMS app.. however it seems to conflict with the one already in this ROM.. I can receive MMS but I cannot send ...

with the Arcsoft MMS app that comes with this ROM try to create a new connection with these settings:


Server name: Verizon Wireless
Gateway: leave blank
Port number: 80
Server address: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Connect via: The Internet (or try Verizon Wireless)
Sending size limitation: 350K
WAP: Select WAP 2.0

it well send pix MMS messages, just cant create a flix (video) MMS message. sending is not the problem. if i recieve a flix message. i have to go to objects and download the file then it will play in WMP only. not in the message as it does in AKU 2.2

I did a hard reset and it did not fix the problem. If my research is correct (a big IF), it appears that this is a T9 search, a function removed from this ROM. Is there a patch to replace it?

so i have made some progress on my big flix MMS problem. i installed this rom (no junk) and did not let verizon install anything. then i ran the vzMMS-registry.cab from BigJ b/c i was having problems setting up the server info. i added my own verizon connection and i can now recieve flix MMS and create them but it wont send it.

Jeff, where did u get that arcsoftMMS composer program? its newer than the others and seems to work much better and would appreciate it so i can try and get my PPC working with your 3.5 ROM. i want to let verizon install its "stuff" then install the MMS program you have...and pray. thanks for all the help!
