Like I said in sfaure's thread, I've got AKU 3.5 help files from another of Helmi's kitchens, but at this point, I'm waiting until we have a source control system to check them into.... I actually grabbed several AKU 3.5 ROMs, since at the time, I was thinking about trying to build myself a base AKU 3.5 kitchen, thinking that the one available had been modified (since I'd noticed that some files were missing).

sfaure03: The file is RSSI_Icons.dll (and this reg entry):

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\ResOver\Bitmaps]
"FuncDll"="RSSI_Icons.dll"
I verified those both exist in the AKU 2.2 dump (where the arrows work) and in the AKU 3.3/3.5 kitchens (where they do not work).

I also verified that in AKU 2, that is the only reg entry that references RSSI_Icons.dll.

That's as far as I had gotten. Part of the problem is that as of now all available AKU 3 devices use the default arrows. Our only ROMs with customized arrows (Apache and the Treo 700wx) are AKU 2-based.

luv2chill, did you actually confirm that there were different bitmaps in 2.2. I have checked and the bitmaps look the same. Also, perhaps the RSSI_Icons.dll is a newer version and we may be able to sub in the older one to get the functionality back. I will check into this.

As a side note, has anyone tried subbing in CrossIcons.dll .

No, RSSI_Icons is an Apache only file (remember Sprint is the one that mandates the flashing arrow requirement), so the version you've got in AKU 3.x is sourced from the Apache AKU 2.x ROM. It's the same file--helmi_c just brought it over when creating the kitchen for the Apache.

So that's what I meant earlier... the proper file and reg entry are there... the OS just isn't using 'em.

So... it's probably the patched stuff in the extended rom that is enabling them - stuff that is 2.x based and likely to break with 3.x?

Are you referring to my post about RSSI_Icons.dll? If so, then no it doesn't have anything to do with the extrom. It's all contained in the CE ROM for the Apache.

What probably happened is that Sprint was the first to give specs for the PPC6700 (just as it was for the PPC6600 before it). So in building the CE ROM for the Apache, HTC created the RSSI_Icons.dll functionality and it remained in all subsequent ROMs built for the Apache. In other words, Sprint required it, but all the other carriers got to use it too. It was the same situation (but a different fix implementation) for the 6600.

As for why it is broken in AKU 3? I think that has something to do with a change MS made between AKU 2 and 3 that no longer allows RSSI_Icons.dll to hook in properly. That's my guess, anyway.

Yeah I was, what I was wonder was, if the icons are in the base MS Rom image, and then one of the dlls that are in the sprint custom rom are used to swap in the functionality to actually use those icons. Just a guess, yours is just as good, if not better.

No they are not. The images themselves are resources inside RSS_Icons.dll.

ISSUE

I noticed that when typing, the auto-correct function does not work.

For example, in the stock AKU 2 ROM, I would type 'dont' and when i hit space or period, it would change to 'don't'. When I try this in a cooked ROM from the kitchen with no OEMs added, the apostrophe is not added correctly.

Other examples

i --> I
didnt --> didn't
(and any other contraction)
etc...

Am I the only one with this problem?
