6700 is dead.. advice for upgrade please

Hello..

My 6700 has seen better days.. it is my second one total. 1 bought new and 1 sent as insurance replacement. I would like the touch for it's size but am also interested in switching to a crackberry.. I have the equipment replacement and am off of contract. I would prefer to stay off contract as well. Also.. I live in Utah if anyone has experience in one of sprint's stores here.

So my questions are this:

Do I go to a regular sprint store or their repair center?

Or... do i do it over the phone with sprint support?

Is there any pointers on how to successfully be swapped out for a touch?

Or is there a way to get upgraded to a black berry?

All help / steps / or personal experience is helpful.

With Sprint the way they are, I doubt that they budge much without you signing another agreement. The way to go probably would be to file another insurance claim. They allow you what, 2 a year I think.

Doing the insurance claim is what I am asking about.. just wanted to know who has had luck getting upgraded using insurance and if they went to the store / repair center / or did it over the phone.

I had mine replace at the local SPRINT store.... twice. I dropped the phone a month after I had it and the screen quit working/no display. It took a week to get a replacement (a refurbished phone, you didn't think they'd give you a new one did you? WARRANTY replacement comes from the manufacturer...).

The replacement phone died by itself a couple of weeks after I got it. The RADIO in the phone would not stay on. A HARD RESET sometimes got it to come on for a few minutes but eventually it died altogether. Another phone was ordered and a week later I was back working.

So, I'd go back and get another replacement.

Aside and partial thread hijack: I hate this phone. It is by far the worse PDA phone I have EVER had. Poor volume. Poor ring quality/volume. poor backlight. Slow interface. Bad ergonomics. Terrible phone controls. Terrible battery life even with the extended battery. Terrible range. Always chooses the SPRINT network at a fringe area (can't connect) unless hard setting ROAM mode. Terrible camera. Constant ActiveSync reconnect when connected to the PC (and I hate windows mobile 5.0...I miss the features of the earlier version especially the BACKUP/RESTORE mode of recovery).The only thing I like about it is the slide out keyboard (which was the reason I got it. My bad.) So if you have this phone my sympathies. I'm dumping it (and SPRINT) as soon as my contract is up....and I've been a SPRINT customer for 10 years.

Theyre are several pieces of software to give you a more loud of a ring. Also you have to know what bitrate and kbps your custom ringers are. Believe me, I have ti turn mine down sometimes. Issue resolved

WTF? I use mine at night sometimes to see where I am going, an NO I am not talking about using the LED for the camera. I am talking about using the backlight. Are you referring to using yours at night/dark or in the day such as in the direct sunlight? I havent seen very many LCDs at all that work good in sunlight.

There are a TON of reg edits you can do to speed up the device. Stop the menu animations and increase cache. Plus you can overclock the device from 416 to 624 and it is much faster. issue resolved.

It barely has any hardware/physical buttons on it so how can you go wrong? If you are talking about software/on screen buttons they can all be moved around or enlarged with serveral types of software or pre-made items made by developers.

With a standard OEM battery I last all day and most of the night. That is with me talking on it several times and doing lots of txt msgs. I likely hit 50-100 txt everyday and then means a lot of vibrating on the device for me.

There is a software hack that prevents this one. it is very simple to do.

There are several 3rd party backup apps you can use. I used to use SPB Backup but now mainly use Clone.

Yes, I love my physical KB. I have an iPhone an using the KB on it takes some getting used to and I still have to be more careful because I cannot feel the keys.

Dude that guy is ****ing idiot. The Apache is the end all be all of phones. What PDA phone has WiFi, a physical KB, a fast processor, a large screen, support for SDHC, WM6.1, Bluetooth, great radio upgrade?

I've had it for two years and still haven't had the urge to switch. The only way I'll switch is if I get the same phone in a smaller form.

And yes, sprint and verizon suck. Purely because the data plans are ****ing ridiculous. I'd pay $20 for unlimited data, but 40 or 45 is out of the question. Thats my complaint and I'm sticking to it.

VZW doesnt have Sero but they do have a dat plan for $45.....LOL. And I agree that price is outragious for such a slow and limited connection. But I like the unlimited plans Sprint has now. It VZW were to give everything unlimited like Sprint then I may change the plan but as for now, I might just change carriers. Im waiting for the new phones to come out to see where I go.
