Re: Wifi Help
if the LAN is unsecure, then there's no need for a WEP key. as long as you can leech off an unsecure network, you're good.

Re: Wifi Help
I hate beating this with a stick but here goes:
I never got a clear answer to the status of the school WLAN. Say it was locked and not open. I have actually never tried to connect to a locked SSID unless I knew the correct key or passphase. I could do it now but don't have the 6700 with me. If it was locked, I would know to put the info in your screenshots. And there is no way to add a username/password, just WEP and WPA. Well, take that back, I think there is a way to add a proxy setting with user name, password, domain. Would that work? Wish I had my phone with me. Or if he tried to connect and it was locked, would he expect to have a login screen come up so that it would connect? Funny how things you routinely do can still have little intricacies about them. Re: Wifi Help
Ok, here we go, if it were an encrypted network then there would no place for a UID/Pass. You would be at screenshot #3 where it says either......
Open with options of Disabled/WEP Shared with options of Disabled/WEP WPA with options of TKIP WPA-PSK with options of TKIP Any any case (other than Open/Shared with Disabled) there will be a place for a key that must be entered. As I said before, there is and will no place in there for a UID/Pass. So IF it was secured and he entered the correct key then there would be no need to enter a UID-Pass in the browser. However, on the flip side of that coin, if the network were open and unsecured the anyone could theoritically connect (partially) but once they open the browser it would ask for those school assigned credentials that must be give before going any further. Does that help? |

Re: Wifi Help
Kinda off topic but thought I might give it a try instead of creating a whole new topic. If you dont have a pcs vision plan do you still get charged for getting on the net while using a wifi connection or is it only when you connect under sprints network?

Re: Wifi Help
Thanks, Weed. Yes, that is how I thought it would go but never having been in the exact situation, I thought we were missing something, since if an iPhone could connect, surely Windows Mobile could...
