IMHO, this should be a wiki thing instead of a large forum post. Because new add-ons are going to be released all the time, a forum thread will get huge and cluttered in record time. The beauty of a wiki is its free-form layout and the fact that it can be edited and cleaned up by anyone.
That's my 2 cents, anyway. |

Well I realize that this new AKU 3.3 has fixed a lot of other issues that required hacks and mods.
So if I refer to all of the threads with hacks and mods (that were done to older AKUs), then I might be doing stuff that really doesn't need to be done. I'm too much of a novice to know what to do and not to do. Whatever you guys think would be the best way to have a useful document for the new guys that just put AKU 3.3 on their PPC 6700s. |

Yep, we might want to go wiki for this... not only because it's a lot of info, but because it's a tree of info, with cross-relationships.
3.x: via a rom image or via the Rom Kitchen (RK lets you build your own custom rom) What reg hacks work at all What do you do with your extended rom (by carrier, we already know Sprint, Verizon have stuff that you don't want installed with any AKU > 2.x, looks like Altell is also in that boat) And so on... as the "fix" for some of these depends on what rom you've got, and how you got it... it's almost impossible to list all the possible combos. |

Hey, I see a lot of the other wm5 device custom roms utilize the custom pagepool and a ramdisk on the rom. I have been able to install a ramdisk into ram, but into the rom would be nice. More info on how to set / change the pagepool would be nice. I have tried without success. It is my understanding that utilizing these setups can increase the wm5 system performance. Anyone know enough to do this on the apache?

Bushrod - thanks for the link. What's missing (or what I missed) from that is a discussion of the tradeoffs in performance, memory allocation, etc. across RAM Disks, paging pools, etc. What applications are most responsive to these changes, which are less so?
Do you know of any such discussion or place to go for this info. Also, FWIW, I've used a hex editor to look at the .nba's of a variety of ROM's - Verizon Stock, Helmi_c 3.3, Col3.3Beta2, etc. and they all seem to have a standard 8MB pool. Thanks in advance for any help. |
