A few days ago I posted about poor phone reception with this ROM. I have two 6700's that I have been as scientifically as possible been trying to eliminate all the possibilities as to what the problem is. I finally switched back to 2.2. I dont know what else it could be other than the ROM. I have ran it with my programs (PhoneAlarm, Pocket Breeze, Contact Breeze, ETEN Dialer). Removed each one at a time, removed all, switched vocoder to 13K, ran without using my mail2web server address. Is anyone else having reception problems? I can replicate the poor reception on both phones and then replicate good reception on both phones using the 2.2 ROM. Maybe I am just in a crappy area.

sixftunda, did you have the same results with the stock 3.3 rom? I have noticed this as well, but don't know why as of yet.
kdoweb, keep trying bud. When I get home I will be able to test more stuff.

sixftunda, you need to have something objective in order to determine if there really is an issue with signal strength. Rather than rely on "bars" (which is almost meaningless) go to your phone pad and type ##DEBUG# (I assume you are on Sprint? If Verizon it's probably ##DEBUG Talk). Once FieldTrial opens you'll see a value for RX Power--use that to objectively monitor and report your signal strength.
I would be extremely surprised if the CE ROM on these devices has any ability to affect that value. I suppose it's possible, but these things are designed to keep the radio and Windows sides pretty-well separated. kdoweb - Try flashing the Altel complete ROM over to your phone (it can be downloaded at the utstarcom.com web site I posted on the last page). I think Sprint and Verizon are the only encrypted ROMs. |

Well it will be more helpful to test this if someone has two 6700s, so they can have one on AKU 3.3 and one on AKU 2.x side-by-side to see how the RX Power compares. Trying several different locations. Then they should switch (flash the 2.x device to 3.2 and vice-versa) and repeat the test to see if the RX Power values change.
That is the only way to know for sure if this really is a problem. |

I'll put it this way--I doubt trying to flash the Alltel ROM could hurt. I think if he can get a radio ROM (any radio ROM) on his phone then he might have better luck reflashing the original Verizon one. |
