sixftunda, you need to have something objective in order to determine if there really is an issue with signal strength. Rather than rely on "bars" (which is almost meaningless) go to your phone pad and type ##DEBUG# (I assume you are on Sprint? If Verizon it's probably ##DEBUG Talk). Once FieldTrial opens you'll see a value for RX Power--use that to objectively monitor and report your signal strength.

I would be extremely surprised if the CE ROM on these devices has any ability to affect that value. I suppose it's possible, but these things are designed to keep the radio and Windows sides pretty-well separated.

kdoweb - Try flashing the Altel complete ROM over to your phone (it can be downloaded at the utstarcom.com web site I posted on the last page). I think Sprint and Verizon are the only encrypted ROMs.
