Low level radio changes... worth doing - nothing new
I kinda held off on both of these (posted all over the place) because you need your MSL to do them, and I didn't have mine (Sprint)
Just completed it, figured I would post all the links in one place for everyone. This was tested under Windows XP. Step 1 - find your MSL (call and ask for it, or use bitpim. I used bitpim) Download latest Windows version of bitpim http://www.bitpim.org/ Download drivers and install per: http://www.ppc6700users.com/forums/v...ic.php?p=20335 After your drivers are installed per the above link (this means your phone is in the right mode and also connected via USB), install BitPim and fire it up. Manual setup, set serial port to whichever serial port shows up as the one connected to your phone Follow this http://ppc6700users.com/forums/viewt...=1640&start=15 from step 19 Basically you're doing that guide above for knoppix, but you're not using knoppix - changes are #17 (you should see which USB serial port to use when you browse) and #18 - don't bother detecting phone) Anyway all that is just to get your MSL. Step 2, change Slot Cycle Index and Voice Codec Now that you have it you can change the Slot Cycle Index - default for the phone is 2, 1 is WAY better - this link says 0 but I'd go with 1 for a while and see how that works out battery-wise http://www.howardforums.com/showpost...95&postcount=2 Finally change the voice codec used between you and the tower: http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...hreadid=848041 Only change there is to use your MSL, not 000000, as the unlock code. Oddly enough, on mine the ROAM (which always sounded better!) was already set to 13k. After making the above changes your phone will ask to soft reset, and then its good to go. I test-called myself after the changes, and my phone woke up on the first ring and started ringing on the 2nd ring. Way better. Then I checked voice mail on the phone, and it was also noticably clearer and a bit louder using the phone (I usually use headsets, as the built-in phone speaker is pretty hard to hear!) Anywhooo nothing new here, just all the links in one place. |

Crap sorry, forgot that the ##778 thing is slightly wrong...
For sprint, ANY ##XXX number needs to be dialed with a trailing #... so you never actually "send" these numbers. For example, ##778# As soon as you enter that last #, whatever magic that is supposed to happen, happens (on SPRINT, anyway) - no SEND needed. |

Ok, I can't get the 6700 to install using the new drivers, thus not detectable using BitPim. Any ideas?
I dowloaded the Access Tel drivers. Everytime I try to point the harware installation to that folder, it doesn't accept the files. Please help. |

Hmmm... does this machine also have the drivers for using the phone as a modem installed? The one I installed on did not.
Is it XP? Mine was. The drivers I linked to are the ones I used, on XP Professional, with Admin rights (you have admin rights?) |

I even shutdown Active Sync. The only way I could even get bitpim to acknowledge something is when I put it into modem mode then it ID'd it as a modem of course instead of a phone. Any help is appreciated. |

Wow, I can't believe how much clearer the connection audio is. Definitely better quality than a POTS landline. I'd say its right up there with our VoIP phone system at work.
Picks up after half a ring now as well. Unfortunately, it still doesn't give me any more rings to answer it... |
