Enlarge REAR Speaker Hole....

This was started over at pdaphonehome, but figured I'd share my version.

Basically, a bunch of us enlarged the hole for the rear speaker (where that tiny, useless mirror is) to get more sound.

Wasn't too hard but it's not for the faint of heart:

1) Pop off battery cover. Remove battery.
2) Unscrew those 2 screws near the top
3) Pop off plastic cover (top rear panel)

Then I used a dremmel to basically carve out the rest of that speaker hole.

I cut some screen from a $4 strainer to use to protect the speaker and put some pre-filter from an air-cleaner behind that to help with the 'highs' and better protect the speaker as well.

Overall took maybe 15 mins. It is a lot louder. Like had to turn my ringer down, louder.

It is a little tinny/sharp sounding but still pretty good, plus it looks cool and was fun to do! (and YES IT VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY, but I have TEP, so whatever...)

you are brave my friend. I would probably try it though if I had a dremmel myself. Think my buddy may have one. So what kind of strainer did you use? a dish strainer?

Yeah, just a small dish strainer from the supermarket. Any screen will do though, depends on what you prefer.

Shadowmite has the best one (of course!).

Just don't be the guy who didn't want to remove the panel and dremmeled with it intact. Ended up drilling into his speaker

Overall it was pretty easy. This device just keeps re-inventing itself every couple of months .

actually, Shadomite's came out the best Picture here

It was some other guy that screwed it up. But happy ending, he replaced his speaker with another one that really cranked. Said it sounded awesome.

sorry but this is a little off topic... but its very important...where did you get those grips from, on th back of the phone... did they come with the sprint logo o are they clear... they are beautiful... I need some please... and is there really a major sound difference with enlarging the speaker whole.

xclusiv_1 those are egrips if I'm not mistaken and no they don't come with the logo their just clear.

pzztgotbags that's a pretty good idea you got there! I not sure if the demand for that would be big enough to justify the cost and time. as always this is imo.

pzztgotbagz: good idea but I'm far to busy to be able to start up anything like that! plus I agree with Wideawake: not sure about the market size. BUT, I could see you doing a small project like that for either people on this board or other 6700 boards.

As Wideawake said: eGrips. get them HERE

You could also zip down to RadioShack. They usually carry the generic eGrips (they're not specifically cut for the 6700). You can get those in black. I do highly recommend them though. great for preventing the phone from sliding around.

As far as is really Louder? Definitely yes. It really cranks now.
