This was started over at pdaphonehome, but figured I'd share my version.
Basically, a bunch of us enlarged the hole for the rear speaker (where that tiny, useless mirror is) to get more sound.
Wasn't too hard but it's not for the faint of heart:
1) Pop off battery cover. Remove battery.
2) Unscrew those 2 screws near the top
3) Pop off plastic cover (top rear panel)
Then I used a dremmel to basically carve out the rest of that speaker hole.
I cut some screen from a $4 strainer to use to protect the speaker and put some pre-filter from an air-cleaner behind that to help with the 'highs' and better protect the speaker as well.
Overall took maybe 15 mins.
It is a lot louder. Like had to turn my ringer down, louder.
It is a little tinny/sharp sounding but still pretty good, plus it looks cool and was fun to do! (and
YES IT VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY, but I have TEP, so whatever...)
