MMS over wifi?

Is it possible to use wifi to download pix/flix messages? I canceled my over priced unlimited data plan from verizon and now I cant recieve or send pics. Whenever it try to connect (#777) I get "Error Code :37 Misc error setting up Mobile IP". I have unlimited txt/pics package but it wont connect to download them. Oh and using the WM6 Kitchen .6c

Thanks,

Miller

I havent found a way yet. The reason is because the 'data' plan goes through thier servers whereas WiFi is connected to a 'private' network and therefore the only solution is to use email with attchments...sry

Thanks for the reply. I have tried several things but havent gotten it to work. It acts like its downloading but never does. I guess I'm going to have to get them to turn on the "pay per kb". Which sucks because I already have the unlimited txt/pics package.

Yeah, Unlimited TXT/FLIX is different that a DATA plan. That does suck. It probably wouldnt be that bad IF VZW wouldnt charge so damn much for thier data plan but I know I wont be buying into it any time soon.

I had the same problem a little bit ago and they said that I wouldn't be charged for any PIX/FLIX messages sent/received even with the pay per kb added to the plan. I don't know if I do get charged or not as I haven't tried since then though.

A lot of reps will tell customers they won't be charged as long as they have a pix/flix plan. This is untrue. I think they just don't understand how it works. Your phone has to access the broadband network to get the message. VZW will charge you for this, per kB, if you don't have a data plan. Its really ridiculous that in 2+ years VZW has made no effort to resolve this. Its completely unreasonable that just because a customer has a PDA phone, they have to be double charged for PIX/FLIX messages because they don't sign up for the overpriced data plan.

I totally agree crankerchick. 45 bux is a lot of dough just to get and send some damn pics or vids. And yes, most reps do not understand how PDA phones/plans work. They are used to the conventional phones that do no more than an Atari system or Commadore 64 (hope I didnt offend anyone ) But I guess since this phone is still thier flagship phone and considered for more business people than persons like most of us, they assume it is a company write-off and a drop in the bucket to pay an extra $45 for it. At least Sprint is reasonable with thiers.

[EDIT]

interesting thing is that I was just complaining about thier charges. I wonder if this affects us as PDA users?

Um no, it is true, they won't charge you for per KB usage when downloading pix and flix messages because it goes through a proxy or something that tells them it is a pix and flix message. Just install nodata on your phone, get the per kb package, turn off the data connection with nodata when you are just using the phone normally, and turn it back on when using pix flix. The phone will connect like a normal data connection, and download the message but you will not be charged. I have used pix and flix and never found extra charges on my phone bill.

of course there are other ways to disable gprs but this has always been the easiest for me, and it is a tiny program you can install on the device.

I would be inclined to believe you, except that I get charged 1.5 cents per kB for my pix/flix messages whenever I receive them. I was told a while back that Verizon had *finally* "fixed" this, but I still see the charge on my bill.

Why do you use an app to turn off the data connection? I've always just left my pswd blank in the data connection settings and that way, my phone only connects when I let it. Does this app save you battery life or anything? Or just keep you from connecting to the network inadvertenly?

Well that really sucks, I would talk to someone about that, see if they can really get it fixed. As far as I know I have never been charged for mms usage. I use the app mainly to keep it from inadverntantly coming on, especially since I use weather and RSS apps. Also witht he app I don't have to go though a bunch of steps to get it back on when I use MMS. I just run the prog switch it to on, then run mms. It's fast and easy for me personally, but there are several ways to do this. Usually mine doesn't even require a password (I leave it blank also) and it still connects.
