Actually that's not exactly how it works. From my understanding the MLS# or whatever it's called on CDMA is your phones real address on the network. For all intents and purposes it's hardwired into the phone. When someone dials your phone # a computer looks up that number and see's it's associated with the MLS on your phone. It then "rings" your phone on the network. However when you buy a new phone the new one has a new MLS and Verizon now associates that MLS with your phone #, so when your phone # is dialed the new phone with a different MLS is "rung" on the network. I hope that makes sense.
