Apache WM6 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.1908 (Build 18508.0.7.0) 071117_1 Bugs/Patches

Quote:

A new kitchen has been released.

Please check if issues with this kitchen continue on the revised 20071217 version, and post to the new bugs thread if they do. Bugs not expressly indicated as being fixed are likely to carry over, but we will need to confirm that.
This is the bug collection thread for the Apache WM6 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.1908 (Build 18508.0.7.0) 071117_1. I'll gather bugs into this first message, so folks don't need to poke all over to find them. Please note that this thread is for bugs occurring in the ROMs produced via the kitchen, the file contents of it's OEM packages, or problems with their configuration or interaction. Bugs related to BuildOS,the tool used to compile/flash the ROM images, should be posted to it's bug thread.

  • "server cert is wrong"?

On wm5 I was able to use the registry changes along with importing the cert manually to make it work. With my new upgrade I am now getting the message "server cert is wrong". I was unable to find any real answer searching google and these forums. I have tried to manually import the cert and doing the registry change but I'm still running into the same problem.

To be more specific, without the registry change, I get a message stating the server is the wrong name, with the registry it just tells me the certificate is wrong. I have checked all date/time settings on both my server and my phone, both match exactly. I have full access to the exchange server and phone.

    Edit:

    More detailed Steps to reproduce:
    1. Go to settings and lock
    2. Select Simple PIN as your password type and set a password of at least 5 digits
    3. Soft reset your phone
    4. Wait for the device to fully load (IE the tool bar theme has loaded and the phone has found a signal)
    5. Now try to unlock the phone with your pin.

I could never reproduce that behavior just with a simple inactivity timeout, but I know you said that was random. But it definitely occurred after every soft reset.

I flashed back to every iteration of helmi's wm6 ROM I had and they all suffered that issue. Seems to be some sort of timeout issue... like the device is waiting for "something" once you click unlock, and when it doesn't happen in x amount of time the device gives up and proceeds anyway. That's what it "seems" like anyway--I could be way off base.

I had helmi confirm that it does not occur on the Universal (which is the closest device hardware-wise to the Apache). So it's either a driver issue or something in the registry that's causing it. Hopeully we'll get to the bottom of it soon.

For the curious, it's actually a bug based on the low order Red color bits. Windows manipulated the pixel value on my behalf in order to distribute accumulated error when moving from a low color depth to a higher color depth. My logic assumed the pixel value I put in would be the pixel value I got out (sounds reasonable, doesn't it?), so when it wasn't things went awry. You see the artifact as green because the low order red bits were writing on top of the high order green bits. By pure chance, green does not write on blue because of an election I took in the code. Blue doesn't have a color after it to overwrite. So, the only color getting messed up is green, which explains why all the artifacts were green.

    Fix available in BuildOS thread.

I'm not sure yet if the issues seen are due to a partially implemented OEM or the developmental status of .16 as of yet. Since we missed listing this in the changelog I'm guessing the former.

Well the obvious first thing to try excluding would be:

ffffffff-5d28-4fa0-abe8-9bd3e1e44836, True, My Personal OEM

Also try eliminating the Additional_Themes OEM--it is quite large and might be making your ROM too full.

When you say it hangs up at 25%, how long have you tried just leaving it alone? What RUU app are you using?

tr2518 11-17-2007 10:59 PM

This is actually the first time that I ever used the Personal OEM (btw it is GREAT!!!). I've had the same problem since the first WM6 Kitchen release. I also went in and deleted most of the themes from the folder prior to building the kitchen. I wrote about this problem a couple of days ago as well and uploaded the selections and BuildOS to the FTP site.

I'm using the No ID RUU because I had to go back to BL 2.02. I had upgraded to the new VZ ROM.

I've let it run for up to 30 minutes with no success.

nickm 11-17-2007 11:05 PM

not really a bug,
But what is the jumble of words just below the tool bar at the top right corner?

Wizzard 11-18-2007 12:11 AM

When I try to cook a ROM the error message comes up "unknown carrier" which I have just selected "OK."

Last question, on the picture for the "welcomehead.96.png" when I put one in qvga and then select it for the second splash screen it comes up as an exception and asks me if I want to continue??? Can I just put it in the "patches" folder and have it load when the ROM is cooked?

Thanks for the great new kitchen!!!!!!!

tiermann 11-18-2007 01:04 AM

The "unknown carrier" is just letting you know about the blank carrier line I forgot to take out of selections.txt. It'll stop doing that after you select a carrier from the dropdown list and save. It's not an error, just a warning.

The exception you get means the new "second splash" isn't quite ready yet, and yes, as a workaround you can place the welcomehead.96.png in your Patches folder for now.

Just to doublecheck for GGuru... What format is the image in that you're trying to use for second splash (jpg, gif, png, etc) and what size is it? second splash should usually be 320x320. Also, anything else you can tell us about the exception message would be helpful. Should be a message just above the buttons.

I don't see the password lockup issue in the list of fixes or in a list of known issues.. Should I assume it is still present?

That is correct. Believe me when (if) we manage to fix it it will show up in the changelog. I'm sorry if it's a bug that highly impacts you--we've just not figured out the cause nor fix yet.

To my knowledge VoIP works although there are CDMA-caused limitations. Please post (or link to if already posted) your specific issue with it and hopefully tiermann or lennysh will come by and help you figure it out (I have never used it so would not be of much help there).

Wizzard 11-18-2007 04:03 AM

OK, I think I figured it out. The only problem I have now is with the "Boot Splash." It seems to have a greenish tinge to the picture, even though it is black and white! I used the converter to save it and it worked better than just a plain .jpg, which was all green.

The "Main Splash" worked fine when I got it close to the correct size and saved it as .png file. You can name it anything with the .png extension.

Everything else seems to work perfectly so far.

Tiermann, your OEMizer works great now. Everything goes in the right places!!!

Thanks to everyone who worked on this Kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i downloaded the latest release and cooked a rom .. it works ok.. apart from a few issues..
1. the pocket c m doesnt let me customise anything.. it doesnt let me sms anyone apart from the people who have already msged me before.. it gives a special sms list.. i think its a bit buggy and interfered with a few other things too..maybee touchflo.. not sure though.. i think the earlier touchflo working simple contacts list was much better...
2. the oxios application has only got one heading in it as compared to previous rom i built from 07_1 version.. the hibernate option is there but the earlier main application which freed much more memory isnt there. and this one hangs a bit sumtimes.
3. the spb plus isnt upgraded .. i did download the upgraged oem and dragged it to the oem folder.. afterwards but havnt build since then..
4. even the spb suite askes for registration... maybee its coz of the plus part being not registered..
5. does 02 does anything apart from being a x button?(its banner screams lots more lol) it doesnt even show up as an option in the today screen . just there on the x button -later i transfered it with the com button on the lower right of screen.
6. since i have a ruim card slot soldered the option transfer sim contacts in the advanced configeration doesnt do anything?
the program which is supposed to do this actualy doesnt show up anywhere? i did check it during the cooking...sim tool kit.?
thanks for the really cool kitchen .. it rocks.. the cooking was a pleasure..
all the e mails n all were customised and working flawlessly..
thanks a ton for all the hard work...

  1. You can customize PocketCM by creating a theme for it (refer the PocketCM site), adding the theme to the Windows folder, and selecting it within PocketCM (hold the phone icon for a couple seconds and a second row of buttons including a configuration option will appear).

The SMS issue is strange as SMS messaging work's fine for me currently. Can you send SMS via other tools? Also, I believe SMS links are only shown for those with a "mobile" number listed, do you use a different field to store your contact numbers?
  2. Note "Removed Oxios "closeapps" shortcut and exe." in the changelog. Though I'm not 100% sure the specific driver behind doing so, the "closeapps" app was apparently causing some issue.
  3. Adding the updated OEM doesn't replace the old one, you probably need to select the new version.
  4. All the SPB products are commercial software for which licenses must be purchased.
  5. All the 02 plus options are normally packaged together. I thing the 02 Plus description is in regards to the full package. Currently selecting O2 plus without the other O2 options should result in just a different x button app.
  6. I don't have a sim card so I can't reproduce.

I can confirm the greenish tinge problem with both the default Apache3.nb and a custom png I tried to use. The custom graphic was much worse though. I'll PM you a copy of the custom file.

thanks for the quick answers.. i noticed the 2 removed oxios files in the previous oem folder and this one.. does it mean if i add those 2 files in the folder or replace the whole folder for oxios it will give me the previous version which was working great for me?
does it mean the latest 4 version for spb plus is shareware as well.. i do have a working version 3.sumthing i think.. so i shd convert that thru omeizer and then put it in the kitchen?

i was able to send sms messages normally but not thru pc manager.. as far as being able to sms to only mobile phs .. here we can msg to land lines as well.. or fixed wireless phs(they have the same no of digits and u cant know the differnce.... i dont save each n every ph as a mobile or landline.. and i usually had an option to send a text msg to each one of them previously..
thanks again guess that means o2 and pc m go out the window next build.. prob spb to...unless i m able to oemise the windows installer file sumhow..or sumone tells me the latest version omeised here is working and not required to be registered..

naigaboy 11-18-2007 03:33 PM

The reason for removing Oxios closeapps from Oxios memory is because it closed every application but the last application that was used. That is a good idea, but not efficient considering there is no exclude list.
Example of the problem is that it will close activesync if that wasnt the last application used, which is not good if you are syncing email and contacts.
Oxios hibernate doesnt cause you any problems. ;)

Who is your carrier? And did you select that carrier in the "Carrier Customize" section?

Please post your selections.txt that you used to build the ROM with.

Anyone use the newer cyberon voice speed dial? When i tried it, the button on my BT headset wont initiate it. The older voice speed dial it would. tried changing some regedits but nothing, here is what i changed but nothing.

HKLM/software/oem/voicecommand/path = windows/voicecommand (sddialer with the old cyberon)
HKLM/software/microsoft/bluetooth/audiogateway/BTAGExtModule with btagext.dll and OEMAGW.dll (for the older cyberon)

everything works fine it just doesn't display who sent me the text

when i pick my selections and attempt to build my rom, i get error: 'could not find 'C:\BUILDOS\TEMP\DUMP\.NETCF 3.5RC2\imageinfo.bin.... any ideals why this is happening?

I know about the CDMA limitations, but it is supposed to work with WiFi... and it doesnt. To my knowledge, no one has gotten it to work on the 6700 even with WiFi. The way it is supposed to behave is that I should be able to put in all the provisioning data in the VOIP setup, and then (when wifi is active), the login occurs behind the scenes and the VOIP should show up on the today screen as connected. This is not happening. I know that I have all my provisioning data correct and the network is available. it just doesnt seem to make sense.

Super slow all of a suden

First, thank you to everyone that has put together WM6 for this device. You guys are awesome. I upgraded from WM5 1.04 to the latest WM6. It was running great, and all of a sudden the thing is running super slow. The problem started when I had a lockup. I reset the device, and I have to put a pin number in because of work exchange. I have the pin number problem mentioned in the known bugs. Usually, the phone connects to the network and the pin takes a few extra seconds. This time, it took forever, like 5 minutes to load everything once the pin finally took, which also took several minutes. Does anyone know what can be causing this? I thought it was the overclocking, but turning that off did nothing.

It's a known issue, unfortunately--with no fix at the current time (other than avoiding soft resets). From other reports it can also happen occasionally when the phone is awoken from suspend but does not most of the time.

Every WM6 ROM for the Apache has suffered from this, so if it's a show-stopped for you, unfortunately you'll have to go back to WM5 for the time being.

the pin problem is a puzzler. i switched to strong pin and the problem went away. i figured it was worth the inconvenience of a few extra seconds typing vs touching in order to eliminate the stall. plus, my device is a little extra secure now. i am sure they will figure it out eventually.

Hmm I saw the same hang whether I did Simple PIN or Strong Alphanumeric. Have others been able to solve this by choosing Strong Alphanumeric?

Would the pin problem be in effect even after the pin is entered? I eventually get into WM6, but it runs like dogsh*t.

I have this hang problem on both Simple PIN and Strong Alphanumeric.
However, I can avoid the long delay problem by entering the PIN and hit the Unlock before my signal strength bar got the signal from the tower....

To elaborate on my problem, it takes about 2 minutes for a command to be recognized (e.g. opening the password dialogue in settings). Also, my top and bottom bars are light grey in color. It probably isn't the password but something else. Does this sound familiar?

HKLM/software/oem/voicecommand/path = windows/voicecommand (sddialer with the old cyberon)
HKLM/software/microsoft/bluetooth/audiogateway/BTAGExtModule with btagext.dll and OEMAGW.dll (for the older cyberon)

I am experiencing the same thing. I can't get the BT headset to work either.

Under Voice Commander settings, I also can't get it to let me record my voice to replace the computer generated one. I record it, and get "Build voice tag failed." Anybody get that to work?

still having very long sync times in active sync. takes about 1 - 2 minutes before it even starts the process, then another 3 - 20 to actually complete... depending on how recent the last sync was.

Who took me to SPB Club where my poking around got the answer that the PocketPlusTouch.dll is repeated in two spots
(I thought it was a mistake and got rid of the wierd one..thus causing the bug of no smartscrolling)

The fixed OEM in all it's glory is at http://www.ajgalbraith98.com/ppcgeek...1_11-18-07.rar

Also if you would like it to register your key number open the folder and
then the RGU file and find [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0B9E877C-7ECA-4790-9BE3-EE1F2566BEF8}]

Add the following DIRECTLY under that line
@="Spb Buttons Extension"
"APISet"="YOUR-CODE-WITH-DASHES"
"Application"=dword:a9401b68
"Version"=dword:00000000

and bake away

also

SPB Plus 4.02 is comming soon with bug fixes, so please be aware that if you feel it locks up your today screen, it's not my OEM...

That is correct. Believe me when (if) we manage to fix it it will show up in the changelog. I'm sorry if it's a bug that highly impacts you--we've just not figured out the cause nor fix yet.

I am just glad it is being looked into. I consider it a show stopper so I have running WM5 again. I would love to be able to try out WM6 now that the TouchFlow apps have been ported over.
