Windows Phone 7... Doomed?

I say god no. A well thought out operating system that meshed to consumers immediately after released, that made the ioS and google android look stale in comparison. The simplicity of the ui concept, speed on the final devices are something to be marveled at.
It is a farcry from windows mobile, but it may be the OS that makes me happy to say I don't have to cook a rom for a while.
I don't use the social function much nor do I use the gaming applications, but gpu does make a difference and microsoft has focused directly on these aspects.
I sy kudos microsoft for marketing a new OS in a time where there are several - and the OS may be top dog

The problem is we are going two ways at once, its almost as twisted as say "Fallout 3". Our hardware is racing into the future with great devices and Snapdragons and epic screens, but our software is pulling us back to like the 1,900s AD or something. This hardware could to so much, but sadly, the devices that run WM7 will be nothing more than wasted potential if somebody doesn't port Windows Mobile 6 or at very least Android over to them.

howso? we have devices (namely the hd2, toshiba tg01, and other hd2 variants like the oboe) that run exactly those specs for wp7 devices and many still have issues with each device due to the limitations and dated coding from wm. So how is the potential of what wp7 can be wasted if much of the code is rewritten specifically for current devices running snapdragon processors and not running (so much) code with horrible limitations?

I'm all for Android (lessor of all the evils) but I think it will depend on how rigid Microsoft and Apple stay. Both are currently closed platform and as a result push people like me away that believe in free choice. However if/when people get fed up with WM/WP/iPhone or the current fad fades away, these companies might bend over backwards to make their customers happy and change their platform stance. If in 2011 Apple has 1/3 less sales or if WP7 sells less then the Kin did, they might reconsider their business strategy and that could make all the difference in the world.

It also depends who has the latest and greatest exclusive thrill out the year the phones released. If Facebook only came on a WP7 device for example, because of an exclusivity deal, boatloads of people would jump on WP7.

It's not like Android isn't without its share of problems either, I'm still waiting to hear that the Epic is able get through a full day on a single battery charge, there definitely seems to be a trade off between open/close platform and battery life...

There a too many variables to even attempt to predict what's going to happen in 2014. If Microsoft is 99% less restrictive then Apple is, M$ could overtake them, making them the direct competition with Android.

WP7 wont even be a part of this equation at this point. Apple, probably depending on if they ever spread to other carriers aside from AT&T. But if the iphone cant slow android down wp7 surely wont.

At the rate android is growing its inevitable. Its reported that around 200K android phones ship per day.

Actually apple little by little is opening up...They are still pretty darn closed but maybe their goal is to start with full restrictions and open up little by little to deal with issues one at a time then having an open platform with a lot of issues to address.

I do not think M$ is gonna sell less WP7 then the kin obviously..and I'm sure they will put a lot of advertising into it..but I also don't think they will cover their costs either...mostly since what they announced sounds like they are trying to face the iPhone 2g rather then the iPhone 4-5..

Wp7 definetly won't slow android down now that microsoft said there won't be cdma wp7 phones till 2011. I was looking forward to trying it out and possibly going back to windows. I guess they want me to continue falling in love with android.
