Re: GPS on LG Fathom?
Subject change time since I managed to solve the OP's problem
![]() Any chance in hell we'll ever get a custom ROM for this phone? I don't know why this phone isn't more popular around here. I went from a Touch Pro 2 to this and I can't believe how much more I love this phone. It feels like it's built like a tank, it's way nicer looking in person than in pics, and the speed is absolutely incredible. Only thing that sucks is the horrible Arcsoft SMS stuff they make you use when I'd rather use the native Windows Mobile one. Is there any reason there's no custom ROMs for this phone? Impossible to unlock perhaps? Or just so unpopular no one is going to bother? I'll tell you what, this is THE phone to have if you are a Verizon customer and are sticking with Windows Mobile 6 and refusing to go to 7 (like I am). Just wondering why no hacking is being done to it. |

I just love showing former WM users, who switched to 'Droid, that my WM phone with a 1G processor is just as fast as their new 'Droid. |

Luckily, there's very little bloat on this phone. The Arcsoft software kinda blows but at least the phone is so fast that there's literally no lag when reading SMS's. Hell, there's no lag when I open up Igo8! This phone is BLAZING! |

Re: GPS on LG Fathom?
Here's a weird one:
GoogleMaps, VZnavigator, Bing all work fine with the GPS and regular settings. However, I don't wish to rely on data connections, so I prefer installing Tomtom, which has worked fine on my previous WMobile devices. On the Fathom, it does not find a gps connection with a gps launcher or even when primed with Googlemaps. Even weirder: every time I install tomtom, it ruins bluetooth on my phone until I do a hard reset. The bluetooth in wireless manager disappears, and when I try to open the settings manually it says, "btmanager.exe is not a valid pocket pc application". Why is GPS so much harder to utilize on this damn phone? Anyone tried software such as Tomtom, Garmin, etc, and got it to work? Suggestions? Thanks. |

Re: GPS on LG Fathom?
From what I have been able to ascertain, the Fathom's GPS hardware is not connected thru a serial com port (as it is in many other phones). Therefore, one can't access it by setting an app to a com port number. Instead, one is "stuck" with only being able to access the GPS hardware thru the LG provided windows driver. I have a couple of older GPS apps that only offer com port numbers as setup options, and therefore I can't use them on my Fathom.
I am going to venture a guess that with Tom Tom, if it can't find any GPS hardware sitting behind a com port, it attempts to connect to an external GPS "puck" thru bluetooth. Last edited by Walt; 12-07-2010 at 08:23 PM. |

Re: GPS on LG Fathom?
On that note, does anyone know of 3rd party gps software that DOES WORK on this phone, preferably without requiring a data connection?
I'm beginning to regret purchasing this phone, but I do like sleek WM and the small size to the thing. |

Re: GPS on LG Fathom?
Internet Explorer is the browser pre-installed on the LG Fathom, but there are other options via the Marketplace. Navigating Web sites has sometimes been a frustrating experience. Try to click on a link of cause the page to go, but it's probably the fault rather than touch screen implementation. As mentioned, there is no support multi-touch: tap twice in a place that some zoom capabilities, but Fathom does not display an entire Web page, unless the site is part of the resolution screen.
