Another perspective. I went through the same dilemma regarding the EVO vs the Optimus. First, you are paying $200 + tax for a better phone, including the 4G capability. In ABQ, 4G isn't even on the schedule, so I did figure a worst case scenario of $240 + tax for a service I don't have access to. And in reality, I don't do that much downloading, streaming, browsing, etc., so I am not sure how much I would really benefit when 4G does arrive. That amounts to almost a $20/month saving including taxes over 2 years. Multiply that times 3 for the 3 lines/phones we have and we are talking a "free" tablet or 2 over the next couple of years. Needless to say I went the Optimus route and we were quite happy with it out of the box, and even happier after rooting, custom recovery, and putting my own custom ROM on it.

Finally, in regards to your original question about reception, I can tell you that we were somewhat originally disappointed in reception in our area compared to our old Diamonds. But with the latest PRL update issued a few days ago, reception has markedly improved from 1/2 bars to the 3/4 bars we are now getting, which is comparable to the Diamond.

Re: How do you like your Optimus?

I picked up my LG Optimus S (Sprint) last Thursday, and so far I love this phone.

I upgraded from an HTC Touch PRO, but my girlfriend got a Samsung Fascinate (Verizon) back in August so I had plenty of chances to play with (and covet) her Android handset.

Being a devout Windows Mobile user for the past 4 years, I am simply amazed at the leaps and advances that are made in technology. The Android OS is quite simply a very smooth platform, free of bloat, with tons of potential (especially if manufacturers/carriers stay up-to-date...) for the future.

Android Market features tons of free as well as reasonably-priced applications and games, plus there's an auto-update feature (handy for Google Maps, Gmail, etc.) so that your downloaded applications receive updates on-the-fly.

Oh! And the best feature I've found so far - working MMS! Can't tell you how many headaches I had with my Touch PRO and not being able to send pictures.

Re: How do you like your Optimus?

So after I got the GF one of these, I knew I couldn't be on the Diamond any longer. I haven't rooted it yet. All in all I'm very impressed with this phone and its performance. For a budget phone it's a pretty kickass smartphone. And yeah, it's costing me an extra $240 over the next two years, but I'm definitely willing to pay that for the responsiveness and awesome apps. I'm also really impressed with the battery life.

Re: How do you like your Optimus?

I want to get this phone for a Samsung Moment replacement. The Moment is a piece of crap, no reception in most areas and when the 2.1 upgrade came out, this phone crashed.

I myself still use my TP2. Want to switch to the EVO, just too cheap
