Re: Phones with Native 3G Hotspot Capability... tether to Gaming Consoles?
Correct... I looked into this a long time ago, and spoke directly with a company rep from WM WIFI and they said it will not broadcast in a way gaming consoles can recognize. I was/have been forced to share my laptop's Internet connection from my cell phone, which in essence masks the Ad-Hoc.
So... looks as though this mini-miracle is only available on Android devices; no surprise there, as WINMO is failing in many ways compared to the competition. So, as SOON as I get my Droid 2 Thursday... and I'm making sure to show up at LEAST an hour early, I'll download the wifi tether app that supports infrastructure mode and get some Modern Warfare 2 goodness going all day long!!!!! |

At any rate, I will definitely give it a try... and still have six days before I own the Droid 2 to get the kinks worked out. Thanks for any more help and insight you can offer! Here is something I found... http://androidforums.com/all-things-...e-working.html There is a working download link in that thread above! Looks like Infrastructure Mode was officially rolled out the 2nd week of June this year, so it hasn't been long! Last edited by HTC Touch-Pro; 08-06-2010 at 07:56 AM. |

Re: Phones with Native 3G Hotspot Capability... tether to Gaming Consoles?
infrastructure mode is supported starting from pre5. This may only work on the evo or a phone that has built in wifi. Then again froyo is supposed to have built in support for the wifi so maybe it will work across the board for all android phones. Test and let us know. Rigth now I know Evo supports it. Moment does not. They have been having problem's with the moment keeping the router open and running it tends to drop connections, there is a specific version for the moment that does not support infrastructure mode.

Re: Phones with Native 3G Hotspot Capability... tether to Gaming Consoles?
I would think so. The evo worked because of sprints built in hotspot. That is how they got infrastructure to work. SO with it being native now to froyo I would think so. BUT I know sprint disabled the android tether in favor of their paid version and it took the dev's a couple of days to get the free one everyone is talking about to work again. SO expect verizon and others to try to break it and make it harder to do. All you can do is try.

Re: Phones with Native 3G Hotspot Capability... tether to Gaming Consoles?
Verizon said they are not including the tether app with the Droid2..to use android tether developed by the community though would require a root which may not be available day 1...

Oh well... I'm sure a root will be right around the corner!! They usually don't take long at all with popular devices... some phones are rooted before the official release! I just read online that the pre-sale will be online August 11th http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/...-12th-2010085/ |
