No Nexus to VZW!!!

Google, as of right now, have decided not to make a CDMA version of the n1. Its as simple as that. Nothing to do with subsidies, it simply won't work on their networks.

This also means it won't be available on Sprint either. If i'm right in thinking both of those networks don't support GSM.

The CDMA version has already passed through the FCC. And Sprint has already confirmed it for their network. Not saying it won't be cancelled, but how often do phones go through the FCC, and not get released (I'm curious, I don't know the answer to this question)?

You're wrong, besides the fact that a cdma version is already made and passes FCC, this just doesn't make sense for them, plus I'm reading the Bloomberg article as we speak and they say a sprint version is still coming as well as vodaphone uk will start selling it April 30th. Vodaphone owns Verizon.

Vodaphone is GSM. Verizon is CDMA. The Verizon version of the N1 wouldn't work for the Vodaphone network.

I know, just letting it be known vzw and Google don't neccsarily have bad blood. If vodaphone owns vzw and their still going to sell the nexus on the 30th, I personally think its because they just got the incredible and vzw knows the US model for selling phones is with the carrier, mostly overseas do they like buying directly from the phone vendor. personally I like buying from the vendor because that will give me more options for phones. I'm not the person who's going to try to get sprint to give me a free tp2 or anything like that.

This is a good point. Maybe VZW wanted to carry it in their stores with subsidized contract pricing?

I know in some parts of Europe, it is illegal for a cell provider to "lock down" a phone, and every phone sold should have the ability to move to different providers with no hassle should the customer choose to.

Maybe the contract issue was the sticky point. Who knows.

Either way, if the HTC Incredible lives up to the hype and is updated the same way the Nexus One is and will continue to be, there is no real issue here.

However if HTC/Verizon stop updating the phone in efforts to have people buy new ones, this won't be good.

My first taste of a GSM phone was when my cousin came here from Europe with a phenomenal looking Vodaphone (largest screen I'd seen at the time). He put in a Rogers SIM card into it and boom, welcome to Canada.

Definitely something you couldn't do with CDMA. Or at least from what I gather.

Well glad I'm wrong if this is the case, I'm only reading whats "Currently offered" on googles n1 website.

I've also read that they refused to offer a CDMA version to Verizon because verizon wanted to lock it down, and that goes against Google's "open source" model.

Either way, hopefully it will be offered, but passing FCC doesn't mean it will be offered, as clearly is the case with Verizon.

Again, hope I'm wrong on all fronts.

Just curious...what would be the differences between the 'locked-down' version from VZW compared to a non-locked version under anyone else? I am totally new to Android, so I am trying to learn.
