Anyone?

What exactly does using a different Radio do? I have sprint, if I use the Verizon radio, how is that different from the Sprint one?

Sometimes changing the radio will improve signal on the phone(not in all cases). A different radio might hold a weak signal better than the stock radio.

If you change it...give it a day or two...to see if you noticed anything better or worst. Then try another, until to get one you like better:salute:

is there anyway to unbrick your phone if you installed an incorrect radio?

flash a diff radio

well it depends

if you flashed a GSM radio on a CDMA then sorry.

but if you flashed the radio found on this thread that is supposed to be only for security unlocked phones.... then flash another radio found here.

Did you flash a radio from this thread? If so, and you have a CDMA device then you should be fine, you just need to flash another radio maybe.

I'm a little worried I may brick my phone. I have Sprint.. does that mean I can only flash one of the 2 Sprint radios posted up here? Or can I also flash Verizon onto my Sprint phone.

Reason I ask is because in Metro Detroit, Verizon seems to have the best signal

if you are unlocked to flash roms then you can flash any rom on this thread no matter the carrier. dont flash the sprint test radio endless you are also security unlocked.

im using the 2.05 and thats what works best for me...

if you happen to flash the sprint test radio you will get a crappy looking tru color screen but all you have to do is flash another radio and your good to go.

test each radio for a couple of days and see which one works better for your area.

gonna have to say nah bra haha didn't work like that for me i tried every other radio and it would just get stuck so i had to hardrest put into boot mode and then flash the stripped unlocker i have and then flash back to any other radio than sprint 1.40. I asked juggalo about it and only some people are having this problem with the raido so its wierd

I'm going to have to disagree with you, I flashed that radio twice just to be sure it was the radio that wasn't compatible because I'm not sim unlocked, and both times I was able to get out of bootloader by either flashing another radio rom or any other custom rom.

Well, each person might get different results. It is a newer radio and should be better. Best thing is to just try it out. Dont quote me here, but I assume that on sprint this would substitute the hacked for US networks stock radio.

I really wish there was a way to quantify the performance of these radios... but unless you are an RF engineer with access to some nice equipment, I guess it's just trial and error.

Re: [UPDATE 01-08-10] Rhodium_W Radio ROMS

Can someone explain the technical aspects of these radios?

I'm on Sprint yet I see people flashing other carrier's radios such as the new Verizon one.

Is it that you would get access to other towers or is it that the signal will be picked up better? I'm reading that it could actually go worse and that's why you need to try out different ones.

I guess on my current stock Sprint radio I have no issues for where I live but going out to my friends in the stick, he is on the border of EV or 1X and he some times get dropped cause as it switches inbetween. Would a new radio help that?

What bad can come with switching radios? Seems a bit more risky that potential added performance at least for my needs if my signal is fine.

Other towers? No. If you are on Sprint, you access Sprint towers and ditto for VZW and the others.

What changes in the radio is the DSP functions (Digital Signal Processing) that are used to decode the the incoming signal and separate signal from noise, error correction and so forth.

These radios also probably play with amplification and signal strength, which can affect battery life if they are cranked up by the engineers who write the radios.

I'm not an RF engineer... but this is my best understanding of the radios.

I am running the new VZW radio and all seems good!

I still show that I am on PRI 1.65_002 was the PRI updated in this last update? I read it is up to PRI: 1.94_00? Is there a way to update the PRI only?

On Telus (Canada).

Fired up a few and while signal strength had a visual improvement, I had more "errors" in terms of sending texts, etc. Could of been coincidental, but interesting nonetheless.
