*Blazing Fast & Stable* Maverick MobileShell ROM *SYS 23135* UPDATED!

Maverick SPB Mobile Shell ROM

Highlights:

I design ROMs to have the best compromise between speed, usability, eye candy and stability. Try out this ROM and see if I succeeded.

*Lean, mean, stable mutlitasking machine. At least in my hands! Test it out and let me know what needs fixing.

*Has overclocking built-in! Set to 748MHz, but can be easily changed.

*Uses Opera Mini as default browser for speed.

*Windows Start menu removed and replaced with XTask to increase free memory.

*Various speed and memory tweaks.

*SPB Mobile Shell cooked in Espresso theme. This theme has the best speed & RAM consumption:eye candy ratio in my opinion (after testing various other Shell themes).

Acknowledgements:

This ROM is a testament to the help and advice of countless people on the forums here, at XDA and Mobile Underground. Some of the key people are listed below, and if I have inadvertently forgotten someone, please let me know so I can correct the oversight!

Shareware included:

Freeware included:
Midomi Music ID
Rhodium Keyboard controller for CDMA
Arcsoft for MMS
Opera Mobile
Opera Mini

By the numbers:
Boot time......................~ 76 secs
Free RAM at boot..........~110 Mb
Free RAM after use........~ 85 Mb
SYS version...................23134

Usual disclaimers:
I make no guarantees that this will work as advertised. ROM flashing is risky, and I assume you know the risk of bricking your phones. If you brick your phone, or somehow do something bad to it, I take no responsibility! On the other hand, I will be happy to answer specific questions and tweak the ROM so it works well for the great majority of people.
Despite everything, if you still insist on flashing this ROM, I really hope it works well for you. Suggestions, comments, critiques and encouragement are all welcome. Especially encouragement

Known Issues:

1. Overclocking sometimes does no stick after a soft reset. Don't know why this is. Just start it up again manually after a soft reset. FIXED: Removed OC. Please install the cab, linked to above in the acknowledgements section.

Updated to v2!
Changes:
1. Redid SPB Mobile Shell. Should not be expired on boot now. You should have 14 days to try it out.
2. Removed the built-in overclocking, since it doesn't seem to stick. Please install the overclocking cab yourself.
3. Includes my custom wallpapers and SPB Mobile Shell settings which you can install manually from the included folders.
4. SYS updated to 23135.
5. All settings should now be working.
6. Added Fingerkeyboard v2.1 to the ROM, replacing the original, crappy keyboard :-\".
7. Little more free RAM at boot.

And finally, here are the download links:
*Generic, no carrier data updated to v2*
*Sprint version updated to v2*
*Verizon version updated to v2*

Did you try installing a Sprint specific carrier cab? I would recommed dcd's Sprint carrier cab. Or you can try any of the other Sprint cabs floating around in these forums.

One thing I noticed, the start menu pulls up the taskman program rather than the start menu. Any way to change this?

Nope. This is by design. Removing the Start Menu frees up around 10 Mb of RAM, and Xtask can do everything that you can do with the Start Menu. Hence, the lack of the Start Menu. You can refer to the XTask thread (linked to in the OP) for more help on how to use this powerful Task Manager/Launcher replacement.

You need to install a Verizon Carrier cab for this to work properly. Out of the box, its generic, and has no carrier provisioned in to allow pretty much anyone on a CDMA network to use it. Please let me know if it doesn't work even after provisioning.

Re: *Blazing Fast & Stable* Maverick MobileShell ROM with overclocking. *SYS 23134*

Ok. So far so, good. It's been a while since I used SPB MS. So that takes some getting used to. The battery life is not very good imo (due to overclocking no doubt), and I had to manually program my internet connection settings as well. (verizon) I did notice a little choppiness when using Opera or when inputting text or when going from portrait to landscape. One more thing, how do we get the full qwerty keyboard onscreen????? That little tile one, well.....sucks.

But overall, it's a good and snappy rom and i'm having fun playing around with Mobile Shell. Keep it up!

I must have had a bad flash. I tried a few hard resets, but I could never get it to fully load. It would freeze just as the today screen was loading.

I'll take anotehr swing at it later.

Thanks for your hard work on this ROM. Installed and looked it over, pretty fast response.
However there is a major problem with the provisioning, tried two different cabs and neither will work. I soft reset after install and went to update PRL and still no go. Phone works but internet does not.
I also tried entering ##3282# to check settings and this also does not work at all.:banghead:

I am all out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Running TP2 on Sprint, Thanks.

That one will work just fine! The carrier cabs are not device specific, as far as I know. I have used dcd's carrier cabs for the Mogul on my TP2 in the past, and its been fine.

Wow

What exactly do these carrier cabs do, if they are still vaild from 2 years ago, and from a different phone altogether.

It appears that it might be helpful to others as well for some guidance/links to carrir cabs, (at least SPRINT & Verizon)

I am on Sprint, so its pretty hard for me to troubleshoot VZ phones:oops:

That being said, I am totally unsure what the problem could be. If there are any other VZ users on this ROM, perhaps they can chime in?

Did you try a Task29 before loading this ROM? I know that's kind of a cop-out answer, but very often, Task29-ing fixes unexplainable weirdnesses.
:dontknow:

On a side note, just tried it, and the ##3282# is working fine on my phone.

As far as I know, these cabs set up the carrier specific connection settings - which, as the name implies are carrier specific and not phone model specific.

I have never been on VZ, so cannot tell you much about it. But for Sprint, go ahead and try the dcd Carrier cab.

@pavanmaverick

Thanks for the link to cabs. As of now I still havent been able to fix my internet connection.
I always do a task 29 before loading any new ROM's to my phone. What I'll try now is to hard reset the phone, run task 29, re-load ROM again, and then install CDC's provisioning cab.
Hope this will work. Will post later if it did.

I did a task 29, installed, no internet. Had calls. Installed the dcd sprint cab, and bam. works like buttaahh. it seems pretty doggone fast to me. I do agree with the battery life too. Notso good. Was using Formula84"s rom. That had great batt life. Hung up a lot and was slow though.

Just noticed you had a "bridge" shortcut.
I have been looking for a nice mobile bridge game.

I assume that is not built in , because I do not see it on my phone.
