Seeing as I'm new to making my own rom, any tips on how to customize settings? Like which options are selected by default, and how to copy a file over after initialization?

I dont have any customizations that will help you copy a file over by default ;c( Sorry. You would have to do that manually. As far as customizing settings..... EEEK this could be a long conversation ;c) What specifically do you want to know?

I know it's a long conversation - I have spent countless time searching the internet for solutions, but everyone has their own way of doing it, and no one ever really explains it at a level I can understand...without spending days playing around with stuff.

Basically, I have a today screen cab that I converted to install with the kitchen, but now I want it to be selected by default when the rom is flashed.

I'd also like to add a custom splash screen (I know that should be covered somewhere else, but since I'm asking questions, I thought I'd throw it in). And settings like ring tones and such.

Looks like this should do the trick. Let me know if you have any tips in addition to that.

EDIT #2: It only tells me how to copy files around. It doesn't tell me how to select the today screen I want by default.

Yes you can, I ran across this kitchen in my throwback mood and LOVED it. Getting ready to make a 6.1 rom for myself. Here is a link for a cab to ext converter that is super easy.

BTW, thanks scrosler for the renewed interest. Bought the wife and evo and loved the speed, but still can't convert to droid. Ran across your kitchen and forgot how fast and smooth 6.1 is. Also, loved the look of your transparent clock rom from your kitchen. Good design never gets old.

I know I keep piling on the questions - I really appreciate the help. Searching sometimes get exhausting.

I would like the top and bottom curtains to be black. So I'm assuming I have to edit the theme. What's the best/easiest way to do that?

6.1 is a work horse. Like XP is. May not be as pretty as 6.5 but gets the job done quite nicely!

The splash screen be found here:

The file name is welcomehead.192.png

Replace it with a 480x800 PNG file named the same and you should be good to go.

I don't know why I just noticed this, but the messaging client doesn't scroll by finger swipe. It's been so long since I've used a 6.1 rom that I forgot about this. Is there any work around for this? This might actually be a deal breaker for me, but I love everything else about the rom so far. It's just a real PITA when flipping through emails.

i cooked a rom, however i cannot get internet working. the phone dialing out works, but no internet..do i just need a radio cab to fix the problem?

Internet works fine. Are you on Sprint?

Not at a PC to do that right now. WIll try to tonight if the FTP doesnt clear itself up.

yes i am on sprint. your premade rom internet works, but the kitchen i couldnt connect. i tried to cook it twice and still same problem, maybe it something i checked off? i didnt uncheck any of the core files.

Under sprint apps, you didint uncheck Sprint Settings, did you?

6-19-2010 - Updated to 1.4 - Upgraded SYS files to 21057. Seems like the fastest so far with best memory mgmt.

No other changes.

I think i found out the problem. when i extracted the kitchen, my antivirus kept on deleting one of the files thinking it was a virus. after i disabled the antivirus and extracted the kitchen again and cooked the rom, the internet worked!

My antivirus deleted a file too, but everything seemed to work, so I didn't worry about it. However, I did notice that the rom didn't have .net on it, so I had to install it to run advanced config.

I agree, when I ported over the SYS files I forgot netCF. I will update the kitchen and ROM soon. I want to add in the 2016 message fix as well. That does get annoying.

keep it up scrosler. im loving it. one annoying this is when u get 2 texts you have to read the message twice for the notifications to go away-- i remember this from back in the day-- i think its unfixable.

let me know if im wrong. other than that i love the rom. im a barebones guy and wishing i could get something completely bare--i don't understand half the stuff in the kitchen so i don't know if i can disable it or not and too lazy to try.

Glad you enjoy the ROMs. I doubt I will make a barebones ROM just because I do offer the kitchen for those to cook a barebones ROM. I appreciate the feedback though.

I logged on specifically to mention this. It's especially annoying when the girlfriend sends me 3 or 6 texts before I get a chance to check my phone.

Hey scrosler thanks for a really great rom. I used your kitchen to customize the rom a bit and I have a little problem. In the sprint manilla home screen on the internet tab, whenever I click Launch Browser nothing opens. The webpage shortcuts dont work also. Also is there a way to get rid of the 'sprint music store' logo/link at the top in the music tab? WM 6.1 is the best
