Can you tell me what area you are in? I'm on Sprint 1.11 as well but noticed that you're using a Verizon Radio. I guess using a Verizon Radio on Sprint service is not a problem?

I'm not an expert but my understanding is the radio firmware is just changing the way the radio acts. The PRL is what tells it what towers it should be using for your provider.

Yeah, I kinda figured that. Was just making sure there would be no issues.

Actually the PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List, I believe. It will only affect where you connect IF you are roaming.

If you aren't, the tower/antenna coverage of your cell phone co. plus your phone radio itself (what we're experimenting with here) and your local environment/architecture/what have you is what determines how good your coverage is.

It is my understanding that the PRL tells your phone what towers to use in each area, roaming or not. Obviously, then, Sprint PRLs give Sprint towers priority over any other towers. And, if you load a Verizon PRL onto a Sprint phone, you will end up always roaming, as the Verizon PRL will tell the phone to use Verizon towers when it can.

Of course, as you can see, I'm new here. Anyone with more experience want to clear this up?

I'm located in Louisiana ...after a few days of use with this radio, I can say that it gives me better signal, but it seems to drain my battery quicker from my observation...

Here is the definitive answer about PRLs from Sprint.

In short, it will not affect anything but your roaming.

Doesn't the first line say it is used to acquire the sprint network?

I noticed that too. But just a few lines later:

"A PRL update will not:

* Improve signal strength on Sprint Network or off network roaming areas"

So I think that's pretty definite.

Actually, I read that as saying that a PRL update will not improve signal strenght anywhere; be it on the "Sprint Network" or "off network roaming areas."
