Haha... try doing it for 50+ apps that change monthly... reg keys change with added features (as you know) so an OEM becomes a hassle as it's static and needs to be updated, even w/OEMizer. And I have to dump the OEM into a folder anyway, just a kitchen folder.

Much easier to use a program like RegSnap, get the difference .reg dump between snaps (it does this quite easily/accurately) and dump that into the folder. I use this method for all my installs and customizations.

I look at Sashimi as a "post flash" kitchen, or Japanese RAW bar <G>

Not so hard after all

Understood.

I guess thats another place where I am differnt... I dont run anything but stock apps and S2U2. Sometimes SPB apps... other than that... Nope.

Also, reg keys change, yes... But not that often. Not trying to debate but just throw out my two cents... But once again this will depend on the app, the usage, and of course the keys in question.

But once again I am not arguing ont his.. Just stating what I think. It just LOOKS like a lot to do. Since I have never done it I need to take some of my own advice and STFU! ;c)

Hehe... understood, and same here: if I just installed a few apps, I'd probably use UC too. UC and SD..txt files always seemed WAY too much effort from my perspective (I suck at typing, go figya) so I looked for a more automated way of automating

And I really just want folks to know there is an alternative to UC, not a replacement, as I spent much time scouring the "cloud" to discover this.

BTW, enjoy the new phone! As carriers start to open access for any phone, you may have an opportunity to investigate yet another "grey area." I almost went with an eBay Sprint TP myself, after reading about folks that got it ported to VZN, but I didn't want to give up the safety-net of replacement, etc.

My hope is that at some point we will also be able to choose between CDMA and GSM service here in the states... video-calling looks so cool on the YT videos of an HTC branded GSM TP!

Yeah the diamond really is nice. I was tired of the pro. Just wanted a new toy and a new area to dev ROM's.

I also will not do the porting.... I like the safety net as you described. These damn things are expensive....

I did get a DEAL(?) on my diamond... I think.... We got two phones the diamond and my wife got a treo 800w. All together after tax is was a just over $400. My phone in store was 200 and hers was 150. I tried to get her to get a diamond but she wants the keyboard. She wont even think of a pro. I tried. Atleast she is finally WinMo Pro instead of standard!

I hear ya... me still finishing my work on application/settings abstraction for post flash, but I think I'm almost there after a month and a lot of research/testing

Shiot yeah!

That sounds like a good deal to me... why wouldn't she go for a TP from Sprint; it's the same as a Diamond w/KB?

I took a look at the RegSnap Website, and it seems to me to be just for desktop apps, not a mobile install. I currently use SKTracker, but looking for something better

It is a desktop app... I don't fool w/complex registry editing via WM, though I do use Resco for some things. I also use WinMerge-- desktop too-- for comparing folder snaps from Resco Bacup. SKTracker will tell you whats changed, yes, but these programs actually create the components I use with Sashimi; ie, diff .reg and folder hierarchy with differences. I then just dump these results into the Sashimi folders as described in the post back a ways.

This essentially allows me to abstract my application and settings space from the WM OS space, and so I can recreate my custom environment on any "WM ROM," as its independent of OS (as long as the registry keys are supported, and they usually are.)

IMHO, latest Resco Backup is MUCH better than SKTracker for analyzing file and registry changes, etc. When Resco finally wakes up and incorporates these features and a dump function in the desktop tool, it'll be all that's needed for this abstraction method.
