If that fails, then I would flash back to the stock ROM, get the free 30 day trial of VZ Navigator....If that works, then the GPS chip is good. If it doesn't work, then you can get the phone replaced....and then re-apply all Scott's ROMS and stuff and you will still have a fast phone.
Thanks Bob! That is exactly what I would have recmended.

There is no way the GPS chip is dead. Its actually part of the core processor. Its not a sep chip. Granted yes, parts of a chip can burn out in THEORY but I would like to see it happen and not take the rest of the chip with it.

Bob, your an engineer? Is it possible for a GPS section of a chip to fry but the rest of the chip be good and perform all other phone functions? Hell not even GPS, any part of any chip? What are your thoughts. Im just an electronic tech trained by the military so you know I dont know much ;c) But seriously,. what do you think? Is that possible?

Debating if it's worth it to have a slow *** phone with GPS or a fast phone without GPS

Does anyone know if the stock leaked ROM in the "stock rom" thread is any good? (need a stock rom to return phone)
See above

Yes, the stock ROM in that thread is athe genuine stock ROM. Its also what I based the kitchen on, but not the sys files, as you know...

I'm an engineer also... Not a terribly intellegent one though. I've seen mention of GPS issues on this site. I'm a pessimist, so I assume the worse.

I redid the bored fix, it sees some sats. So, I think it's good. I haven't had much time outside today (stuck in a building) I guess the hard reset I did
wiped it out. I'll be checking it out when I get out of work at 11pm tonight..

I believe that the primary failure mode of "Only GPS" would be Infant Mortality due to a weak component. After the device has been "seasoned", a failure would typically be catastrophic, not just limited to the GPS. Any "isolated" failure would be random and rare. Most likely the phone would be "toast".

This is a probably a simple fix so hopefully you guys can help. I installed a different clock on the kitchen and it works except that all the other tabs have that white box in the upper left corner. I think it may have to do with the background4all app, but theres no where to edit that on here. How could i remove that program if I wanted to?

The SSK theme cannot be modified very easily as it is all one theme, like the other themes inthe kitchen. One thing I do differently is not part out TF3D. I leave them as the carrier leftthem and as I found them... except for the SSk theme.

Thats a hand built them by me, from the GSM manila version. All fixes on it applied are for the GSM ROM's. Getting some CDMA style fixes to work will be challenging because of the differnece in clock layouts, etc. Its going to be hit or miss.

But here is the good part.....

You can recreate the theme any way you want to. use the "black manila" theme. Thats the base of the R4R theme.

Hope that helps

Good to have you back, Scott.

I don't know what you've got in store for us, but I just figured I'd throw in my own opinion:

I suggest beginning to implement the XBmod TF3d update from the TP2. Looks fantastic.

I've been waiting for you to come back though to ask: what is the free RAM after a fresh flash supposed to be for the Rev.B Kitchen/20931 build? I show 48mb free, and it seems kinda weak...

EDIT: thats 48mb free on reboot, not on a fresh flash, or else I wouldn't be asking. I've been running the same flash for a few weeks.

That's about what I have. I am also running a rom cooked with the Rev. B Kitchen and the 20931 sys. I show 75.84MB running after a soft reset, with minial stuff in the background (though I am running the HD Manila port). But with a Sprint TP, that leaves me 115.32MB available, so I am still only using about 40% of the memory.

I would say the same. The stock ROM boots with exactly 45.x megs free. My ROM's configured like a stock ROM will boot with a few more megs free. Thats if you have all options cranked up like TF3D, Large start and title bars, etc....
