Re: [ 10-22 ][ v4.1 ][ 6.5.1 / 6.5 / 6.1 ] Calkulin's Visual HTC Kitchen & ROMs

I'm a noob and I have never used a kitchen. Is there a "kitchen 101" link? In the mean time. I see there is an already built ROM on the 1st page. If I were to install the "Calkulin's Touch Pro 23071 ROM v4.1.7z", Is there any obvious thing I would be missing or need to change?

There's not really a Calkulin's VK Tutorial because he's got everything included from beginner to developer.

-The second Guides link helped me get started on some basic customizations
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...%20Wiki%20Page

-rstoyguy has made a great Tutorial too. If look at the Kitchen structure it's a little different but still really helpful.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...t=oem+requests
-Again, Kitchen structure is a little different, but it was helpful to me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533423

-Also, I read one of the best suggestions a few days ago: Once you've decided on what version EXT, SYS, and XIP you are going to use, click "Save ROM" before you change much. That way you have a Stock'ish kitchen setup to refer back to. Then start enabling & disabling your choices.

I think I have a few more links on my Laptop I can give you too. good luck.

The new 23081 build from Da_G is up and reportedly it does not have the messaging lock ups and is overall a lot more stable. Hopefully we will get an update on the kitchen soon!

THNKS!
I can answer a couple of these:
1. Real wm 6.5 aku is checked for a 6.5 & 6.5.1 ROM to enable the proper memory mapping/usage when you build the ROM. As stated on first post, These ROMs will not boot unless it is checked.

2. Warn on Overwrite is a legacy option that, I like to use just cause I'm curious. This type of Kitchen is designed to handle conflicting files, unlike the BuildOS style which fail when conflicts are found.

3.LZX is an alternative compression method that is rumored to save space as well as, in certain cases, slow the device.
(On that note... have any VZ cookers tried this or found it helpful)

-Not sure how the kitchen behaves when old style rom is checked.
-I have been using 6.5.1 for a couple months so I'm not familiar with 6.5 issues & behaviors.

Re: [ 10-22 ][ v4.1 ][ 6.5.1 / 6.5 / 6.1 ] Calkulin's Visual HTC Kitchen & ROMs

So, this ringer bug/problem is really dogging me:

In all 23071 ROMs I've cooked from Calk's 4.1 Kitchen, any ringtone I choose from the phone will work fine until I soft reset. When the phone reboots, the ringtone defaults to the very first in the list entry, but doesn't actually make any sound when the phone is called. I've heard of this bug before, where Manila or 6.5 or whatever acts as though the currently selected ringtone is corrupt, even though it isn't, and won't emit any audible sound until a ringtone is manually selected. This doesn't happen with other ROMs I've flashed.

Anybody here had or having that problem? If so, any solutions? If not, any ideas? I'm kind of running out of my own ideas: I've re-flashed, left out registry mods, etc... in hopes of tracking this down, but the bug just remains no matter what I do. Haven't done the stock flashdance yet, was hoping to avoid it.

Thanks!

Since my ringers are ok... Only things I can think of is that it's some package you enabled/disabled or the ringer that is abnormal in format or size?

Did you cook in some custom EXT's?
What packages did you enable/disable that are not preselected when the kitchen first starts up?
Hope that gets you looking in the right place.
