Now that I get what you've been trying to say, I'm starting to look into it as FPOS's xip are in old style kitchen format. So my line to thought would be to extract the .rgu first and work in from there.

I haven't grasped the xipporter yet in the kitchen but there's where I am anyway but instead of coffee I think I need a drink

You have to extract the xip.bin from his os.nb.payload then dump his xip.bin and you can make another folder in the ROM folder but there are only select files you need to put in that folder.

Cooed and configured a very nice 23412 rom and the only bugs so far that I havent figured out how to fix is:

The default htc volume control selected in the kitchen V2 does not show up so you get the wm native bubble, which doesnt have the nice integrated volume control in youtube or wmp and messes up their playback when adjusting volume. The proper HTC VC shows up with 23049.

Crappy calendar picker.

I was wrong htc volume control v2 does not show up in 23049... 23049 is definitely much better graphically throughout but accessing the windows folder is relatively slow whereas 23412 windows folder access is instant. Guess that sort of confrims the whole stupid com2 com4 thing.

Pretty sure if you want the original icons you need to set manila 2.5 slider icons to false in the kitchen. If you want a cab you may want to look/ask at the gen.y panoramic thread.
