Re: phone freezing?

Maybe it has something to do with the compression the camera is doing..I don't use the camera much yet but have you tried other camera apps like "camera magic" and etc?

There was a really good camera app but I forgot its name

Re: phone freezing?

my thing is i dont want to have to use a different app for things th phone already should do. so far i need a new camera app because of the freezing, a new media player app because the stock one wont play audio on most of my vids, an app just to go in to dock mode, a clock app cuz i hate analog clocks. a file explorer app because the stock one only sees the sd card, an app for better sms options, but then i get notifications from both apps that i have to dismiss twice, same with email. and much more. what does android do well out of the box?
between the need for an app for everything the constant ads, and the dock issues im hqaving, im borderline ready to take this phone back.

As I said the camera app does "Compression"...it has its ups since the file size of images are a lot smaller then usual..but it has its downsides as well in certain scenarios...Android is a platform revolving around customizations..if stock always was perfect for everyone then why are apps created? to fit people's customizations..I mean even on M$ windows you can't play all the videos until you download codec packs. You can read emails till you get outlook/thunderbird etc..

What are you using for SMS?

If you wish to take it back though that is your choice..no one is stopping you (except 50 FBI agents outside your door waiting to ambush you jk)

Re: phone freezing?

i dont think its compression in camera mode making it freeze. it freezes before i even take a picture. ive gotten the mms compression message after ive taken pics. this isnt that. as far as the video/audio codecs or new mdeia players, why do the advertise the balls out of this phone as being the 720p bad ass video playing super media phone when it wont play anything better than 2 channel audio? ya, it plays flac audio, but doesnt get embeded audio on a movie unless headphones are plugged in. boo. i tried using handcent and was getting all my texts twice. i like cool apps. i like having an ebay widget. i like having a speedtest widget.its way mmore convienent than going to the full site, but i dont feel i should need an app just to go in to dock mode though. i dont like that all the quality apps are paid but at the same time i dont like all the streaming ads. hey, i guess its better than winmo. you couldnt even get a quality app for most things.
at least my phone isnt having the gps and battery issues other are having. this to me is a quality device. im just questioning wether android was ready for me. but when you say android is built for customability, i disagree. it was made to moniter our usage to let google more efficiently sell us thing and any easier way to put the ads directly in our hands. i dont even have to look up at a billboard. i just look down at my phone. theyre both trying to sell me viagra. i just didnt realize what android was when i signed up.
sorry for going off topic. im working on doing that less.

Well they advertised it as a video phone, not an audio phone..duh lol jk..though if you have proper headsets with 5.1 audio I hear it does work...whats kidna missing is a transcode of 5-6 channel audio to stereo on the speakers or other stereo devices...maybe they'll fix it with froyo..idk..I guess report it to samsung and see?

Hmm..maybe Touchwiz is conflicting with the Handcents for notifications? my guess is they Handcents fix it...you can also disable TouchWiz and that might solve your issue.

Well yes thats why Google built it..but Android is open-source..in some places they completely removed all traces of Google...you can actually remove all instances of Google if you really wanted to...

But overall its your choice..do what you think is best for you..all we can do is try to assist you if you need help :/

on a dif forum relating to camera freezing sum1 said that pressing the power button while in camera locks it in that mode . . . pressing it again unlocks it .... here is what they said

"hey folks For those of you experiencing a lock-up while in camera mode, I thought it happened to me the other day as well, turns out its not a bug its user error. If you try to turn off the screen while in camera/video mode by hitting the screen lock button you are locking the camera mode, which mean you are making it so that the phone does not accept any inputs aside from unlocking by hitting the power/ screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. Of course this means if you don't know about the feature and you activate it, instant freak out. Re: phone freezing?

i was hesitant that it was that simple. i figured that since i couldnt even use the shudder button this would not have been the same freezing. i just put my phone in camera, pressed the on screen shudder button, and i wouldnt work. im much happier.lol. i do think its stupid to be able to initiate a screen lock before you statr filming. imo, you should only be able to lock it like that while your filming. but either way, ,thanks.

very stupid to have it lock in camera. id like to be able to have the camera available as soon as I power up my phone at times. then again maybe if I would start reading manuals I would know these things lol
