With full root you can update the radio and rom from the memory card with no computer or that damn adb shell that gives me a hard time. On the OMJ v1.3 rom there is an app called ROM Manager that does all the work for you. Click my sig for a link to the rom.

Re: EVO updated Radio 1.39.00.05.31

Just a heads up from my experience (and discussed on XDA); if you've done a full root (Part 1 & 2) when you flash this new radio everything will go as in Toast's directions until you get to the part about seeing the status bar.

It has been the experience of many (including myself) that the bar appears very briefly and then the screen appears "stuck" on "formatting cache". Do not reboot as doing so may screw up your 4G reception.

Instead, at "formatting cache" go to Wipe, then wipe "davic-cache" Then reboot.

This seems to alleviate 4G issues many experienced. (although many say the old radio had better 4G reception...YMMV on that aspect).

I don't know about anyone else but after i flashed this radio my battery life completely sucked just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience and if the previous radio was better in their opinion.

Re: EVO updated Radio 1.39.00.05.31

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is different about this radio that it can't be flashed the same way as the others?

Do you still need Toast's root for this method? I'm rooted with Unrevoked (supposedly the "full root" version) and tried flashing via Rom Manager, but it didn't work - my old radio is still there.
