You can't "disguise" a custom rom, unless it is based on the Stock OS/SYS. The only rom of mine that would pass through Sprint Tech is grooveROM 1.2, which is stock plus FM radio, since it doesn't have my initials in the AKU version, and it is stock OS/SYS.

If you need to repair, just flash to ship, then reflash back to custom when you get home.

That's worth the price of admittion in itself (deleteing files is a crappy way of working around the issue), but no, that's not all. Fundamentally, ppck has better control over the build process. It's structure is more friendly to the seasoned pro as well as the novice. It does dynamic and static pagepools. It builds for multiple devices just as easily as one.
Quote:
If PPCKitchen had better documentation, I would likely use it more. I don't mean how to build a basic rom with the packages that you supply but how to do some advanced cooking, and use your own bases with the kitchen.
"Advanced cooking"? wtf is that? Cooking w/ today's tools isn't rocket science. 95% of the roms here can be made (sans any artwork) by a blithering idiot in no time at all. As to documentation, what do you want to know? It's a lot more intuitive than old or new bepe is. About the only thing not intuitive is how to do the build steps individually. If you find yourself needing to do that, let us know. As to building with your own base, 99.9% of people should not do that, but there are plenty of examples if you really want to.
Quote:
You mentioned earlier that PPCKitchen will automatically display your name in he rom, but how do we choose what we want it to display?
The quick answer is you don't. That might change in the future, if a need presents itself.
Quote:
I've used PPC Kichen many times, and it is quite good. However, it is just a little too automated my my liking. I like bepe's tools, because I know what they're doing. It's true that my knowlegde of how PPCKitchen works is limited, so please educate the masses!
lol - it's the same automated as Bepe's! Just because you have have to run a .bat and then poke the green arrow vs run an .exe and poke the green arrow doesn't change how they both build a rom. It's true you can not use the .bat file with bepe and do each step by hand, but how often do you do that? Of course, it's also true you can do the discrete steps in ppck...few people need that level of functionality.

Quote:
Also, if I could be sure that I could build a rom without needing an internet connection, I would be more likely to use PPCKitchen.
I'm not saying to use ppck - I'm saying not to use old bepe. Now you have a choice of new bepe or ppck. Most of the painful limitations of old bepe are resolved in new bepe (but new bepe is definitely harder to configure). I'm totally fascinated by the concern over an internet connection - Yes, you can cook in ppck without being connected to the internet.
Quote:
In the end, is there really anything superior in a rom built with PPCKitchen vs Bepe's tools, or is it simply the process??
They are more likely to boot and have fewer problems, on average. This is in part because of the improved build control, but also because ppck can learn dependencies and incompatibilities.

Um, no. While OS updates are in our hands long before maintenance releases are issued, device specific stuff (like drivers and radios) typically are not. Official updates always bring new toys.

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

Absolutely fascinating, truly! However, far far off topic. So to bring this back around, I have a question that I thought was answered in this thread but only seems to be partially. Let me be up front since some individuals seem to be sensative to this subject. My intent is not to steal/rob or in anyway take away credit from anyone. I have no intentions of distributing a rom I have cooked without giving proper credit to the original designer which ironically, is HTC.

I am using Calcu's Kitchen for the Touch Pro. I do know that the OEMVERSION folder has the .proxml that changes the rom/image/ what ever name. The problem is that when i go to flash the rom is still brings up his version information as the new rom but I know it changes it to a degree because if I already have a rom flashed that I cooked, my version will show up as the old version. So how do I fully remove calcu's version information?

I have been unable to use PPCKitchen in the past when I wasn't connectd to the internet, when trying to log in with my user/pass. Maybe this has changed.

If I use my own oem base and someone else's ROM and SYS's how do I use them with PPCKitchen? Do I just make a zip file of each of the three packages, and edit the selection txt document. I thought in the past I saw like 5 different elements (drivers, oems, base, rom, sys, etc..) do these need to be put together in a specific way to be reognized and built by PPCKitchen, or can I just do OEM/SYS/ROM like Bepe?

I have looked briefly at the new Bepe, and it doesn't look that tricky. Honestly, I guess I am ignorant, so I use Bepe's old tools because I know how to make things work with them. There's lots of information about Bepe's old tools, but not so much on PPCKitchen, unless you are referring to your previous tutorial in this post:

Oh, and BTW, why don't you sticky Calcu's kitchen thread, but you sticky yours and Tobey's? Calcu's kitchen is quite nice. Oh, that's right -- old Bepe.

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

My thread was stickied by no2 as a walkthrough on how to use the first and at the time only kitchen as well as a very simple one, long before Calcu started here... I think ppckitchen has many advantages over ours, as ours was designed to give the most basic of features while still allowing sys/xip changing with little effort and an easier directory structure, so you can delete what you don't need without much effort or searching.

Try harder ... the information is there in the configuration files.

The configuation files are called out in the command file that Calcu put together.

Best regards,

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

Old tools? How come I enjoy the old tools so much??? The only issue I have is if I build too big, it generates a nbh that is around 108kb.... I think the max size I've built sucessfully is around 136mb nbh. Any bigger, it won't build right. I may have to look into the ppckitchen again next week.
