i looked all over the threads, i saw a post about it, but it said something about using a os.payload folder, in my tools, but i dont see that folder anywhere. plus some posts say that VK doesnt use the xip.bin, but whenever i setup all the other files, and i go to select XIP build, 28005 doesnt show, and im not sure what to do

I thought i had read somewhere that the xip.bin wasn't needed in the VK and that it created it during the build?? True or not? (i assume you would have to have the msxipkernel you posted though)

did you copy one of the old build folders in the ROM > Diamond folder & rename to 28005..?

you've gotta do that to match the new one you just dropped into the ROM > Shared folder

*MSXIPKernel that is, you can get that from xip.bin but if you're using the VK its already been done for you

correct, you don't need the xip.bin for the VK

Re: [ 11-10 ][ v4.2 ][ 6.5.x / 6.5 / 6.1 ] Calkulin's Visual VGA Kitchen & ROMs

I'm pretty sure I've seen something about this before, and I searched and nothing came up... but I'm having this problem with all of my incoming picture messages coming through as very small pics. I know the original picture is bigger, but I cannot figure how to make them full size when I receive them. I have checked all the settings in the Pics/Vid Options, and deleted all the other carriers but my own. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Battery drain issues

In my case, the battery drain issues were not because of the ROM, I get it with other ROMs as well. What I've found is that it is usually because some process couldn't connect, and it keeps trying, generally ActiveSync. Here's some links on how to kill it:

http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/board/1...r-battery.html

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35647

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3&postcount=81

Some combination of all of those stopped the drain (as well as the overheating) for me, most of the time. The other times I found it was because some process was loading at start-up (VZo Mobile for me).

A task manager with process display is useful for diagnosing these issues.

So let me make sure I have this right...

I need to goto \Kitchen root\ROM\DIAMOND\ and then copy any of the build folders ie... 23506 to an alternate location so i can rename it 28005, then put it back in ROM\DIAMOND ? This would infer that the OEMXipKernel doesn't change from build to build correct?

If this is all true then I could actuall just skip the copy/rename step and just add a new folder in ROM\DIAMOND called 28005 then goto say 23506 and copy OEMXipKernel folder and packages.txt and paste it in my new 28005 folder. All ture????

Edit: And if this is all true, then it's all not really needed... if it doesn't change then selecting an "older" (although not really if they don't change) xip in the VK wouldn't really change anything as it's going to create a new xip when i create rom anyway???

you don't have to copy it to an alternate location, if you copy and paste it w/in the folder it creates a folder called "23506 - copy" (to follow your example). but yes, the OEMXIPKernel doesn't change from build to build so your method would also work. however if you choose an older xip you won't get the new MSXIPKernel portion so the rom may not function 100%, then again it may work if the builds are close enough.

as i understand it, the OEMXipKernel portion of the xip is specific to the phone. the VK combines the OEMXipKernel from your phone w/the MSXIPKernel from the new build (28005) to port/build xip on the fly during build

So in the actual VK under the XIP dorpdown box, the "xip's" listed there... is the kitchen showing the available "xip's" from

\ROM\Shared\28002\MSXipKernel (this is my guess since it's the one it going to merge with the OEMXipKernel)

or

\ROM\Diamond\28002\OEMXipKernel (pretty sure the above is correct as it is the only one that makes sense to me and it's going to merge w/this one)

So basically the XIP's listed in the dropdown box in the VK are actually the available updated MSXipKernel's correct? (if my above assumption is correct)

i'm not sure where the kitchen pulls the numbers from, i just know you need to have folders w/matching numbers in the ROM > Diamond & ROM > Shared directories
