Sprint and Verizon radio tested as follows.

HTC Network Test Tool set up to ping open dns servers constantly for 30 min. with out allowing the device to sleep. HTC Battery tool to monitor current draw and batter %

Sprint results: v1.00.00F
Drain 50% in 30 min <--- horrible!
Heat is outrageous!
Current draw is between 550-650. usually 600mAh NEVER see it drop below 550mAh

Verizon Results: v1.03.03V
Drain 10% in 30 min! <--- Thats crazy good!
Heat is substantially less then the sprint rom. it did get warm but not hot at all!
Current draw is between 290-499mAh I saw it drop as low as 107mAh a large # of times and never saw it go over 499mAh max and usually was between 290-350mAh

Im sticking with the Verizon v1.03.03 radio for now :D

so wait we can use the verizon rom on a sprint diamond????????????

Does the device have to be unlocked (I'm guessing yes) for this to work?

Edit: Nevermind it does :)

How's the reception on the VZW radio, is it better or worse then the Sprint Radio?

Sweet, flashing it now. Hopefully the battery will last a LITTLE longer now.

It's completely safe to flash back to the original radio, should we need to, right?

yes, but read the disclaimers in the first post. cuz im not one to listen to people cry about messing things up. i don't spoon feed i don't have the time or the ambition.

Re: [UPDATED Bench Marked Results post 75 ] Official CDMA Diamond Radio Rom Thread

I am testing the new radio as we speak. I flashed the 1.03 radio and now am flashing Juicy 2.5 on top of it. Then I'll install a battery meter. Obviously my results won't be anything scientific because I did not track battery usage from before I flashed for something to compare to but I do know that most of the time my usage was 400-500 mA draw when idle and the screen was on 70% backlight.

Understandable. I just meant as far as (like with the Touch) you couldn't downgrade radios (but that was more from a gps to a non gps radio or what not). These are both the same in that regard to where we *could* flash back.

i also went from stock sprint radio to stock vzw radio--- so far no problems. the flashing was fast and easy-- reception is the same -- i'll post later on battery information.

I'm jumping in too. Anything is better than sprint's current radio. as long as it doesn't damage anything or cause me charges on my sprint account!!

can u do a simple sprite backup and restore once you flash the radio sincei t hard resets? its been a while since i flashed a radio i dont think it touches the phone ROM though, just the radio portion so it should be ok to restore a backup.

Juicy, if this thing works, do you plan to put it in 2.6 ROM? Thanks!!

to those who have done the radio switch:

Juggalo_X posted that he suggests to backup some stuff (first post). What backup tool is used to do this? I have Sprite but didn't see any options for these items.

xcopmanx 10-22-2008 03:56 PM

Re: [UPDATED Bench Marked Results post 75 ] Official CDMA Diamond Radio Rom Thread

I think it would be silly to put it in the 2.6 ROM. That forces a radio update on users who may or may not want one. Plus flashing a radio everytime you install the ROM? I am sure many would not be too fond of the risk factor involved in that.

Mr. X 10-22-2008 03:59 PM

Re: [UPDATED Bench Marked Results post 75 ] Official CDMA Diamond Radio Rom Thread

the radio update will never be forced upon users. i can assure you

quick update. i am def getting a better signal in ceratin places of my office. Did not used to get any bars by the elevators - now 2-3 bars. Not sure if this is a placebo effect but an indicator that it is a better radio?
