Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap

I don't think they'd even have a reason to cap WiMax. The technology is efficient enough to sustain all connections at max speed.

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap

Same could (possibly) be said about Fiber, DSL, and Cable... But if a lot of P2P goes on with Wi-Max, I could see it (sadly) happening...

Talking Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap

Ok, I was pretty ticked off when I first read this so I had to investigate some on my own.

I got similar answers from multiple places (Calling CS, Calling TS, Sprint.com Chat, Email, and Store) around Sprint.

When asked about the 5GB cap imposed on the "Simply Everything" data plan.

"The 5 GB data cap was applied to connection cards, not the phone plans. With the Simply Everything plan, you will still have unlimited data access."

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap

Well that's good. Why the hell would they want to cap broadband card users? the amount you pay a month for the card is worth the unlimited access.

I thought it was pretty stupid too, but at least it doesn't affect me.

Correction, it effects only those who have signed a contract for the card "after" sprint made this cap.

Anyone prior on an existing unlimited plan is unaffected.

I own the Sprint U727 & I pass 7GB ever so often with no cap, slowdown or warning... So this only effects new broadband card users.

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap

The whole reason they did this was retards using Mobile Broadband as their only source of Internet, downloading multi-gig DVD rips on BitTorrent. Any "unlimited" system will eventually be abused... the only reason they didn't limit data plans on phone devices is because there is really no way for Joe User to break 5 gigs.

Then what would you call a business user/mobile user?
How many desktops are being sold vs laptops?
Why is 3G so popular?
Why pay 2 or 3 bills to get to the same Internet?

You can easily pass 5GB and not download large files, within a 30 day period.
And unless you live under the cell tower, you're not going to torrent files
over a 3G connection at 1.3MB and keep your sanity, this is what Wifi is for...

No, it was because the competition no longer offered it either.
Its also a reduction in service that does not reflect in price (They didn't make it any cheaper.)
You also have to realize Sprint has nothing to lose competitively here by doing this.

Sprint wins, current users win, new customers lose.

Let these Q's marinate:

Ask why your carrier charges $5.00 for a set # of text messages & why they bill you with overages when you go over them?
Ask why unlimited is not unlimited?
If you're going to impose a data cap, why not reduce the cost of service for the imposed limit in service?
Sprint Rep: "So we capped your data? Don't like it? Who are you going to run to who doesn't have one?"

Its about MORE about money milking opportunities, than usage.

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap

Has anyone ever paid overage fees? I have a PCMCIA card and regularly use 5+ GB a month work related remote desktop stuff, I don't download big files or anything. Never been charged a fee. I even have the new USB card (and a new contract) and haven't yet seen an overage.
