Re: Android/Linux for CDMA Touch Pro 2 Rhodium Updated 3-23-2010

Thanx alot guys! keep up the good work. I will be using Android even more now because the screen sensitivity has been toned down. So its great and I know everyone wants sound which will be good to have but I'm happy just having it vibrate. Can't get charging to work but its getting there. Keep up the good work!!!!!

Re: Android/Linux for CDMA Touch Pro 2 Rhodium Updated 3-23-2010

Guess i get lucky, always boots the first time. 3-28 is good. For me the next critical path for using this full time is charging. I can live without the sound if i had to until that gets worked out.

Just to do my usual bursting of bubbles heh, there is no first to anything. Like I have said before there are multiple devs, and they are all working on different things. Some devs are working on multiple things, they all have their strengths and weaknesess. But definitely in their eyes battery/charging/sound are definitely in their desires and wishes as well. But as they work on some things, it opens up possibilities for others. So sometimes things switch tracks. Part of development! Hopefully things will get figured out but it just takes lots of time/patience and effort.

Keep in mind to use the "andboot" folder you need to be running a fairly current initrd.gz. I think MrPippy has that in his but he can better answer that.

Ya, if it doesn't fully boot into Android, it knows nothing about full keymapping etc. Reset button or Battery is your only choice.

If using "andboot" you don't have to do the rel_path= switch. This is built into the initrd.gz to check root as well as andboot. Only if you want to use a different directory than that will you need to use that switch.

Is there a way to manualy remap these?
Unfortunately I am not aware of anyone that has done the keymapping for Verizon Rhodium 500. Your best bet is still using the Sprint mapping being as ATT doesn't have the number row. I am not sure why they haven't done a mapping for Verizon. I will see if I can find out what can be done about it. I know on the GSM side they use a separate file for the keymapping instead of building it into the Kernel. So will have to see if that is an easier path for you guys. So till then, just use "physkeyboard=rhod400" is my recommendation. Which is most likely what you are doing, but for whatever reason diff Carriers have to map their keys differently, why, I dunno.

what's the chances of an actual working ROM that we can flash to our TP2's without any bits of winmo running in the background at all??

Will we see one prior to Evo dropping on us later this year??

I'm curious to see how our TP2's can perform running Android only...
A full flashable ROM won't happen for a long time, it won't be till things are fully functioning. There is no real advantage to the developers. It has been tested that running off SDCard is much faster than Internal Flash. So another reason not to rush that.

Sorry to be a bubble burster!

Honestly haven't delved into what does and doesn't work, but awhile back I know certain ROM's don't detect the Charging for whatever reason. I was using MightyMikes 2.1 ROM and couldn't charge in Android. But using Stock Sprint 6.5 ROM works fine. I have heard Mr. X's ROMs work fine, as well as NRG. So not sure what is different, and not sure if that still holds true, but I do know that the Sprint ROM I am on works fine.
