Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [7/21] Fresh Froyo!

Hey guys, yeah the new setup is a little tricky, but I like trying to break my phone daily, so it was right up my alley to try it. LOL It doesnt have the convenience of a cab install on first install, however, once you get your SC card partitioned correctly, you wont have to do it again! (unless corrupt somehow of course) The installer is rather simple after that, and formats the ext2 partition for each new install! All you would need to do from then on is download the install pack, run the installer, and you're done. For some this wont be the way to go, that's for sure, and like has been mentioned we are working on fixes! I wanna smash my keyboard (but it was too expensive) because I fixed data yesterday morning had it boot, was signed into my account, working nice. I decided to update the gapps package and in the process broke something that was signed in the system, and the whole os stopped working with permissions errors. I wasnt too worried, at first, but now have been trying to a day and a half to recreate my apparently lucky fix... lol.

Thanks, i used that startup and it installed it but when i goto haret.exe to boot android it installs it again and doesnt load android like usaul??? am i doing something wrong? also the first time i ran the new startup it said it couldnt load the intrig file, so i copied the one from my npkinstall folder on the sd card and moved it to the root of the sd card and it installed but still installed again after reboot.

thanks for all the work you guys have done. its probabaly more remarkable than most of us non-programmers realize.

ok dont kill me guys....i just got a tp2 and was really hoping to be able to use android on it and have a more practical setup for accessing gmail, google voice, etc...but i see the camera doesnt work (i dont own a digital camera so this is essentially my only camera thus i dont really have the convenience of being able to go to android atm)...regarding the camera, is this something which is possible to get working eventually? is anyone working on that or is kind of a dead end?

Thanks!

My bad 2phone. I realized after I posted that, that you guys are on some other ish! I've yet to figure out exactly what you all are doing and by reading a few of the instructions, I must say that I ain't ready for that.

But good luck on your journey

It is being worked on, however, an estimated time on when it will be fixed is not available. I have a feeling that once either 3D, sound, or camera are working, the others will follow very shortly.

get the dual boot app...
then make sure you are using the oc 4.2 script...set your safe mode to stockspeed and give it about 120000ms
this will allow you to boot haret without having to clock back down every time.
i can confirm it working with stock sprint 6.5

I was having the same issue. What dual boot app are you using? Is it the Gen Y version? Can you point me in the direction where I can get it?

Thanks.

I think you have things mixed up, the installer has its own haret, seperate from the haret that is in the root of your sd card that runs android.

You need haretpack1.4 from neopeeks page.

version 1.0.6 does not require a regedit to boot from android folder (whatever the newest version is)

The new rootfs update should speed up your regular system install to close to the speeds (if not the same, it has been said) as the multiple partition install we have been testing recently. I have not had time to try it, as I will soon release a new ROM image.

Is that the new rootfs via the autoupdater?

Its the new rootfs however you get it. There are multiple ways, but yes, the updater should work, as that is what its for. :p

Force CDMA should be checked, since you are on CDMA network.

The handset that you choose just coordinates with the keyboard you use. Its all controlled by the startup.txt file in your andboot folder. Read the FAQ, it will give you even more commands to use.

I haven't noticed a real difference in smoothness on my RHOD100, but then again, it used to be pretty smooth already before the fix.
I noticed the first few minutes with this new build were pretty slow and hangy, but after a few minutes it smoothed out and things have been fast ever since. WM is starting to feel slow and laggy now, even with the newest energyROM... (and thats a good thing for android!) :D

You really need to give it some time after booting before it gets real smooth.

Are you overclocked in WM? If so, you need to get rid of the overclock to boot into Android. Haret will freeze if there is an OC in place.

Disable your auto backlight in WinMo.

Yeah I just saw it in the FAQ, was trying to find where it was but then saw it on your website lol but thanks! :)

But hey Reef, I had a question for you, when I was looking through the Wiki one day I saw this

Quote:

11. You should kill all the apps as soon as you boot into android. They are all running and this contributes to the battery running down so quickly
Is that true?

To a point, yes. The more apps you have running the more your phones hardware will be working. Even in sleep these apps check for updates, and other tasks, using your systems hardware, in turn draining your phone. The less cpu, ram, memory access you are using then the less your battery is being used also.

When we added that, we were on an older build, that would start almost every single application on boot. So not only was it draining batt, but it was draining system performance, and people thought that's the way it was supposed to be (opening all apps), so we had to mention otherwise.

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [8/18] MORE SPEED!!!!!

noob question but couldn't find answer in faq and elsewhere: if you install the files from the latest update (using .rar downloaded files, not the cab) what will happen to your existing Android set up...ie customizations, all the app downloads, etc?? Wouldn't want to lose all that with new install, obviously! if this has been covered somewhere just point me in the right direction..thanks!

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [8/18] MORE SPEED!!!!!

I have downloaded the lastes updates from the updater. I am having slight problem. the phone boots over and then 2 things happen. 1) It sits there for a minute and then auto-resets. 2) before it auto -resets i have no service. Yes i have taken my Sim card out.

Any reason that this could be happening. I have tried this 4-5 time now and the same thing happens everytime.
Any advice? Thanks!!

Did you update the zimage/modules using that tool? Its broken at the moment. Manually update your zimage/modules from the Project Tracking page on my web page.

The kernel, which will be an archive. Unzip it and rename the zimage-#####blahblah file to just "zimage". Delete the old zimage and modules, and then replace them with the newly downloaded ones. Its all very simple once you try. :)

The rootfs updater and initrd updater both work fine still, but they move the web page for the zimage/modules (kernel) so i will need to change that in the startup app as well.

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [8/18] MORE SPEED!!!!!

Sorry to answer my own question, but I thought I'd post what I did:

From the download, i copied over the following files to the andboot folder on my SD card:

initrd.gz
modules-2......gz (i.e. the modules file)
rootfs.img
system.ext2
zImage

Note did not touch the startup.txt or the ts-calibration file. From looking at the directory, this noob would say all my personal stuff (apps, customizations, etc) are in the data.img file.

In any case, after doing the above, the phone booted right up no problem. I presume this gives me the latest updates?? Anyone care to comment on what I did and how you verify this update from within Android?? {Answer to my question: in Settings, About Phone, the Kernel version matches the modules-X.X....etc number thus I will assume this is the latest and greatest now on my phone. Thanks again!!!}

Thanks...this forum is awesome and certainly has greatly extended the life of many TP2's!!

That is correct. Data.img file stores all personal info.
