Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

Hello guys, after trying Android for the first time on my TP2, I must say I am really impressed! It's awesome to think that we might have an alternative to Windows Mobile on our TP2s, especially now that Microsoft is focusing more on their Windows Mobile 7. I had a few general Android questions:
1) Will Android ever be completely functional (eventually) on the CDMA TP2? Are there other Windows Mobile CDMA phones that are now completely functional with Android?
2) Once a port is stable, does it always have to be started from within windows mobile? Or will a separate rom be made eventually that can be directly flashed?

Thanks!

Question Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

How do I turn off the LED light on my TP2?
After installing Android on my SD card, the LED light comes on and stays that way until the battery dies.

I had a question about importing contacts. What is the easiest way to do this onto android from WM?

You have to first import them to your gmail or google voice contacts and then on your phone just sync and they will all show up on your list.
That's how I did it and it worked for me.

Not all of my contacts have gmail though. Actually the majority are non-gmail or I don't have an email address for. I have the Sprint CDMA version so I think the SIM card back-up is out of the question (I don't know how to do that either). Any other thoughts?

Man, I assume you have all your contacts backed up on your Microsoft Outlook.
If that is the case - and I hope it is - then export you contacts to a file (it could be any file), then go to your google voice account or gmail account and import the file mentioned above.
This file should be .CSV file (comma separated values).

If you don't have a google voice account, I suggest you to sign up and get one.

Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

Guys, when I installed the latest zImage/Kernel from xda, it did not include the Mail.apk that comes with version 2.0.1.
I must say that after an extensive research I found out that most people hate this app.
Well, I love it because it let me add all my emails in one place!
The issue here is that I was able to find an .apk after brwosing, but every time I try to install it gave the 'installation failed" error.

How can I include this app when I update the latest zImage/kernel?
Why did they take it out from 2.1?

I am unable to click on "Mobile networks" as it is grayed out. Any ideas? Just as mentioned before I am permanently stuck in airplane mode...

Make sure your sim card is removed if your on Sprint CDMA...Located under the battery.
