Re: fifth of android apps expose private data

Do you really think all the stuff we put on our PCs don;t already do some of this stuff?...

Here is another good read from the other site...

http://androidforums.com/android-app...w-android.html

Here is a new "Norton" app...looks kind-of cool...not really sure the virus/malware is needed for a phone, but the remote wipe and sms lock-out features look promising...think I'll try it out!...Based on the comments, I may just pass...

Go search your own name on a site like Spokeo.com. They have some incorrect info, but you may be surprised about how much of your life is already known and available to anyone. The younger you are, the less info they will have - but once you start integrating into society (loans, homes, credit cards), you are "out there".

now that is definitely creepy...

Hmm, has a few piddly things right that you can get from any courthouse in the area you live but not much else. Heck, it says my wife is a male. ROFLMAO

The things that programs do require is a little bit ridiculous. But on the other hand they give generalized warnings as to what the program does. I wish that they would provide more info as to what it will be doing with that so that we can make more informed choices as to what programs to install.

I love that I do not have much information on the web in my name. Spokeo and google find nothing on me besides my master thesis. Not everyone has lost all privacy.

Well the stuff they request information for is not at all ridiculous when you think about it. The official twitter app can sync data with my contacts. That's ALL it needs contact access for. However, android doesn't allow access to JUST changing pictures for contacts. They have to have full access, even if they don't do everything they have access to. Really, its just a nice courtesy that they tell you before you install it that they are accessing this information.

Think of it this way: You have a barrel full of apples, oranges, olives, and bananas (This is off the top of my head, the food variety isn't the point)

You need an olive from that barrel. Its a very small thing, but you still have to stick your hand in the barrel to get it.

Nobody seemed to care because your point is completely invalid in that thread. Similar, in a way, the the pointlessness of the paranoia in this thread.

I get that and decent way of explaining it, but it is sort of weird when (as others have stated many times) when I install a game it needs to have access to my contacts? I guess I just wish they were more specific on explaining why they would need access to my contacts and such.
