Re: fifth of android apps expose private data

Let's see what app's would access your contacts well facebook twitter all these social apps. It is what they are designed to do guys. Lot's of app's these days tie all this stuff together think about what the app does and what you want it to do. Like some others have said at least with android you are warned what it CAN do. Just because your contacts are accessed doesn't mean they are transmitted to someone else.

when we load & run apps we get warnings but I wonder how many ppl actually know potential threat. I stumbled on this so figured is share ... http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20...eadlinesArea.0
Only a fifth? Wow, I find that a HUGE underestimation. Of course they're exposing private data, security is not always the concern when you're not charging for an applicaton.

Re: fifth of android apps expose private data

I did read the article and it is not independent it comes from a company selling anti spyware software. I think if this were as big a problem as he is saying that someone here or XDA would have found some evidence of it. Not saying it couldn't be true but the scare tactics from everyone are getting really really old.

Re: fifth of android apps expose private data

It is probably more than a fifth - and it is not in any way just a google thing.

Net anonymity is waning - privacy really is going/gone, and there's not really a way to get it back.

Go search your own name on a site like Spokeo.com. They have some incorrect info, but you may be surprised about how much of your life is already known and available to anyone. The younger you are, the less info they will have - but once you start integrating into society (loans, homes, credit cards), you are "out there".

HTC specifically does NOT recommend this!

-also i find these findings along the same line as the company making these allegations to increase sales in their 30$ anti-spyware app
