I actually just discovered the phone today, read about the locked GPS, then wondered if PPCGeeks had anything to say about it...and apparently they do! Time for $30/mo data, and *real* GPS.

On a side note - does anyone have the same issue I do - I can't post here with FireFox, only with IE. The text box just gets greyed out in FF. Very odd.

im on firefox too

I am new to the Omnia and followed the guide for flashing the phone with the new ROM with the hope of getting the GPS to work. After the step of connecting and turning on the phone, the loader log indicates that it can't find the PDA "PDA Device not found." Also "usbdev open Faile" several times.
I have hard reset the phone and restarted the PC as well as tried it on another PC with the same error.
If I turn on the ActiveSync then I can connect and brows the phone.
Any sugestions?

thanks.

Did you actually turn the device off and not just the screen?

What OS on your computer?

well, first you need to make sure that your phone is able to connect to the computer. Turn on the allow usb in active sync, make sure you downloaded the drivers from your samsung CD, and make sure active sync recognizes your phone (set your phone to connect through active sync and not mass storage).

after that, set your phone to connect through mass storage, let the computer connect to it and make sure it downloads the drivers and actually sees your phone.

After all that, follow the directions word for word and it should work.

dont take it too fast cause then you miss a step and end up with all the other people who have bricked their phones
