tethering warning

I got a text message to my Touch yesterday from Telus, copy & pasted:
"Your TELUS monthly rate plan does not include using your smartphone to connect your laptop to the Internet. A $8/MB fee will apply starting >Feb 25th<. Please call 1-877-279-3100 to discuss options for data usage. This is a free msg from TELUS. Thank you"

I guess the free ride is over....

Yeah, I knew Telus didn't do anything about it so I wasn't concerned.

Re: tethering warning

Just wanted to give you a heads up, but there's a huge debate going on in one of the forums concerning if ICS regedits is considered warez, which is why mr8800 asked if he could quote you. It's a very interesting debate I must say.

I've never heard that before. What is the justification?

Well a quick check on Telus' website shows that anything other than MiKE service just allows web browsing and data connection on your phone. Anything other than just connecting on your phone, and passing data back and forth between your phone and their servers, requires a MiKE subscription. Not sure if that is what you have or not, but check it out. Seems to me the debate isn't really clarifying what plan people have.

Re: tethering warning

I found the thread and am reading up. I don't have a Mike plan, but I am going to raise hell with Telus over the fact the salesperson that I bought the phone from said that tethering was fine (I double checked because I knew the real answer, but he was uninformed with a few things).
