Re: Agps

AGPS is turned off/on via the registry. A simple way to do this is to use advance config.

Re: Agps

depending on rom and manila versions you can also see it in settings/system.

I am presently on latest "Energy" and can access it thru there and in 2.5manila settings.

Re: Agps

Agps does not need to be on for apps like "googlemaps" , "QuikGPS", or HTC Location services" to work, and reg settings in the same folder which it Located in the registry can affect newer radios GPS, causing some delay in initial satelite fix on startup
I would leave it off, but leave "HTC Location service" ON .
Ok

Re: Agps

Maybe on am confusing things, but if I turn GPS off, googlemaps can still get my location approximately. Not down to the 10-20meters GPS does, but usually 300-700 meters. I assume that is using the cell towers - isn't that what the AGPS uses? Or am I confusing things?

Usually AGPS uses the phone network + real GPS signals to get a position quicker. What they use the phone network for can vary depending on what is available and conditions.

The cell tower triangulation technique, which is also used by Google and others, doesn't need any GPS at all and can usually provide a position quicker, but less accurate.

There are different technologies with overlapping feature sets so it can get confusing.
