im not to sure about the activesync problem because you didnt tell us what error message you are getting but if you are running vista or windows7 you need to install windows mobile device center not activesync.

the advantage of wifi is that often you will have a faster internet speeds over wifi, so if that speed boost is important to you then you may go that route. also you could be in a non evdo area all together then switch to wifi if a signal is around you. there is no actual advantage of using wifi over evdo or vice versa.

edit: some programs require you to be connected to a network thru wifi to use network features but those are certain programs and you will know what those programs are if youre trying to use them.

Re: 2 questions...

If you're running XP did you download Activesync? Or do you have Vista? As for wifi, I don't use it; it's just a feature. If you want to use it fine, but you don't have to.

I am not understanding: You cannot get Active Sync to install on the Compaq Computer?

I use my WiFi connection at home to take advantage of my home networking instead of using my cellular companies service. To me this is the basic purpose of using WiFi with a smartphone.

Re: 2 questions...

Aside from Outlook, the benefits are minimal.
It's helpful to re-install software (.exe files);
It's an easy way to import pictures;

I totally depend on Outlook. we have several phones syncing with it and it's great to be on the same page with this program (Calendar, tasks, notes, family email, finances)
