$3.00 Replacement Batteries?

I was checking Ebay's prices on a replacement battery for my PPC and I noticed that many of them are running from $3 - $18? What's the catch?

when i got one that shipped from china, i think, the mechanism to prevent overcharging was malfunctioning so the battery was becoming bloated. I think I Just got unlucky because i've seen others that use these batteries fine. Another thing is some of those poly-ion batteries are not really designed for use with our chargers. I've also heard that there's always the risk of a poly-ion battery exploding and causing some serious problems, but i have yet to see that happen. At the end of the day you're going to get what you pay for.

I have seen poly-ion batteries bloat and explode. I fly remote airplanes that use the same battery and it is not pretty so be carefull with what you purchase.

I've bought 3 batteries for the 6700 through ebay. The cheapest one was about $3.00 plus around 10 for s&H, with a very cheap car charger thrown in. All black plastic with a label that says "For AU-6700" and no mAh rating. Based on my experience, this lasts about half as long as the OEM. So to a certain extent you do get what you pay for.

Any idea which ones I should get?

I would like to get them, but don't know if they're trustworthy. Mine's old and the battery doesn't hold much of a charge anymore

I don't mind paying $20 for a battery... I just want to make sure it works and lasts good!

I got mine from www.boxwave.com. Cost a little more, but as others have mentioned..."you get what you pay for".

I've bought 2 EBAY extended batteries. The first was advertised as 2400 mah, but was actually only around 1800 - but it still provided much more life than the OEM. The next battery I bought, for around $14 shipped was a 2600 mah lithium polymer battery. This one works GREAT and the life compared to the cost is the best available. I and some others hadn run an endurance test on the various batteries available, which was posted on pdaphonehome.com. Keep in mind that these two batteries are extended versions, which are bigger and require a new battery door.

That said, the slim lithium polymer batteries have been reported to have a better life than the OEM's - though I can't personally confirm it.

I usually end up staying away from cheap batteries like that, they are usually cheaply made, and don't last that long. You are better off spending the extra $$ and getting a decent extended battery.
