Android Gingerbread

Android Gingerbread (follow on to Froyo) will be implementing WebM and VP8 in Q4 2010. VP8 is basically the open source of H.234, which is what Apple and Microsoft is backing. Firefox has refused to use the expensive H.234 format and will be backing VP8. Open source all the way!

Thoughts?

I know right! And they are going to be releasing it later this year and they haven't even released Froyo yet! Google is slowly taking over the world

Re: Android Gingerbread

they just get it, i dont know how to explain it. im watching the live stream of i/o now and everything hes saying has me saying to myself "hey thats exactly what i want, thats so convientent."

autoupdate is my favorite so far of what theyve announced. best idea ive heard in a while and the implementation seems solid as well

EDIT: wow all devs there are getting free evos!

I know exactly what you mean. Even though my moment was running 1.5 when I first got it, that's the first thing It thought to myself. Now that makes sense! Huge reason why they are thriving. They are putting practical and convenient things in the consumers hands and giving us what they want, openly.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of auto update. I was reading an article about this the other day. The author was an Apple fan boy and was bashing android because it doesn't have auto update. Personally, I like going through a seeing what's included in the update before I install it. Maybe I don't want to upgrade because it would bork something. I've never blindly auto-updated because it was there. But I can see how it's useful for some. Hopefully, it's up to the user to decide in the end. Regardless, glad they are listening to the users

EDIT: those lucky bastards!!
